Vase with peace lily

What do you all think about putting a betta in a vase with a peace lily on top?

Not a good idea..Betta's need a heater and filter just lke any other fish. Lots of room to swim too. A 5 gallon tank would be good though.

I agree with CHoffman flowers belong in a vase, not fish. Please, if you can't give a betta a filtered heated tank, don't get one.

Here's some information on betta care:

I have seen them and thought it looked nice and was thinking about getting one for my desk at work. But it doesn't sound like a good idea.

You could always get a 5 gallon with heater, filter and get it nicely planted. The betta would love it and it would look great on a desk..IMO

Those have been around for a long time I bought one of those for my Mother-In -Law many years ago. The Betta didn't last long. I thing there was about a half gallon of water in there. Bettas also need to be able to get to the surface to breathe.

My cousin used to have one. The roots of the plant got all slimy, and the betta died.

I don't think the office would let me have a 5 gallon tank. I guess i will just hang a picture.

Some members have had luck keeping them in a 2.5 mini bow with a small heater.
They're really cute, maybe that would fit?

Edit: Thank you for asking about it before going and buying. It really shows you want wants best for your fish.

I have a 2.5 rectangular tank from petsmart that is really nice, you can fit a heater and sponge filter in it without too much trouble. I think that it might be slightly smaller then the mini-bow (height wise anyway).
Not the best picture but I'll see if I can find one with the whole tank in comparison.

No fish should be in a vase. They need room to swim. Betta are happiest in 3-5g heated tanks.

That's the thing they look nice but it's not right for the fish.

Red....I have a couple of those tanks and I love them...I'm sure we all agree our beloved Betta friends should not be kept in a vase....

Well I guess it would be okay if it were a cycled, 5 gallon, heated and filtered vase.

As long as it doesn't have a narrow neck. We wouldn't want the roots to get in the betta's way when it comes up for air.
It's actually an idea I'm constantly working on. I like the idea of growing terrestrial and swamp plants from the tank water. The biggest problem is how to get them to sit at the water line.

This wouldn't work with a vase but UGF plates upside down with the tube helping to support them.

Small ring-shaped styrofoam islands? I suppose they could be attached to the sides of the tank too.

I'm working on something similar to this. I've got a piece of filter media being supported by four styrofoam balls that is growing stuff.
