I have known bettas in the past with the name "Fighter". I was in school then. Guys used to make them fight until one of the bettas lose and run for its life. Sort of a gambling. The state of the bettas after they were separated would be absolutely bad. Their fins torn, sometimes bleeding. It is cruelty towards a beautiful fish. Isn't it?

People still do this here. Hope bettas are kept for their beauty rather than to fight other bettas.

The people on this board do most certainly love their fish and value them as the beautiful creatures that they are. You are most certainly welcome to read and enjoy the stories and comments made by the owners of these lovely little creatures. They all have names and we try to refer to them by their names as Bettas more than many or most fish that we know of, have a connection to the humans who care for them and have been known to develop a loving relationship. Many of our members who have lost their little friends have mourned them as members of their close aquaintance if not their families.

There are no members of this board that use these lovely fish for fighting purposes or as far as I know is this a practice that is openly held in our country. I do not believe their would be many who would condone such practices here. I know however that customs and practices vary around the world and that Bettas have been used in this manner for centuries.
