filter for betta 5 1/2 gallon tank

Hi everyone,
Bad news. My Murray died yesterday! I called the LFS and told him and he said I could pick another one out. Got another one today. He is blue in color this time. I had to turn my filter off though. He just kept going over there to it and it would suck him up to the pole. I was afraid he wouldnt get away, so I have unplugged it. He just seems to insist on staying right where the water comes out of the filter to sit. I know it is recommended to have a filter and mine must be to strong. It is a Cascade power filter 80. No way to control the power of it either. Any suggestions for a filter for 5 1/2 gallon tank

Wendy

Whisper makes a smaller filter for small tanks. You may want to check them out. I think that your filter is a bit to strong for him. for the short term you can also get those small filters that are disposable. They are tiny but can work for the time being. I do not know the brand names but I see them at all the pet centers.

You could try putting a filter over the intake and tying a sponge to the output. That will slow the water flow a little bit.

Thank you everyone. I did get a Whisper 2-10 gallon filter. It is so much better, not near as strong as the other one.
Lucy, Murray I think was sick when I bought him. He was really lazy and layed on the bottom of the tank all the time, didn't eat and was just disinterested in everything.
