read the thermometer

Oh gosh, I just butchered the spelling of that in the subject line! Anywho, I have a hanging thermameter in my 5 1/2 gallon tank. Looking at it, there are colors, yellow and green. The green is in the 70ish range and the yellow is in the 80ish range. The mercury is right at the top of the green, the higher end of 70s, just a smidge short of the yellow. I can't decide if that is in the 80 range or not. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Lucy suggested that I get another heater and I will, only if I am reading this wrong, kwim? The heater I have does not have a control on it, but it does have a light that comes on when the heater is on and then when it reaches temperature it goes out.
Thanks,
Wendy

Can you get a clear picture of it? Maybe someone has the same thermometer and can help you read it.

I find the thermometers hard to read to. I'm pretty sure the top of the yellow is 80F

Here is the picture as suggested. I am guessing this is still too cold for Murray?

The long line under the number is for the number. The notches are in 2deg increments.

I agree, thats a perfect temp for a Betta. They love the warmer water.

Yeah I think Green means good for most, yellow means all right, though getting near too hot or cold.. that's just my guess...

My thermometers are like yours and I think you're around 78 to 79 degrees, which is good. This type can be inaccurate by up to four degrees, but still the best I could find after looking all over town. (I didn't want digital because of the cord):

yep, we have the same thermometer too, basically if it's at almost the top of the green, then you're good!
