| | Moderator | Congratulations, he's beautiful boy.
I agree with Shawnie, normally bettas don't play well with others. Keep your eyes out for any sign of aggression or stress and have a back up plan in case things don't work out. |

He's a good looking boy!
I'm not sure what name would suit him.
Heaters can be a bit pricey but once you have them you have them for life. It depends how cold the water in that tank stays. If the tanks 5 gal's you could try to pick up one that is large enough that it could heat a 10 gal tank. That way you could also call it a back up heater.
You don't need to buy it till things go wrong in the ten though. |

| | Fish Helper | Yeah, don't put fish in the 5gal without a heater. I tried keeping a betta in a small tank without a heater and it was not good at all. The water got really cold. Look around, I'm sure you can find a cheaper heater. I got mine for less than $15.
Beautiful fish! |

| | Master Of Fish Poo! | He's a handsome little Betta and I agree that it would be good to keep an eye on things in the tank. A stressed Betta is much more susceptible to disease. If you want to add cories or otos, you'd want at least a trio of whichever you decided but keep in mind the guideline of 1 gallon per adult inch of fish. |

| | Fish Bum | OK this is warped but im naming him Vida. I keep calling him "her" and with the flowing fins and the blues and reds im picturing female. so whats a man that looks like a woman , a Drag queen and who is my favorite drag queen , Vida Bohemme in To wong Fu.
It will be ok now I already told the other fish not to tell him the orgin of his name. |

| | Fish Mentor | whats a drag queen ??
Sorry but im from Aus and i dont think i have ever heard about drag queens |

| | Fish Bum | Its a man that does female impersonations. They are usually gay and lean to the feminine side. Usually drag is done for shows and not everyday. they are flamboyant and over the top with funny names. The names are usually the name of your first pet and the first street you lived on or a play on words Like Rupaul who is black in too wong fu had the name Ms Rachel Tensions and she wore a confederate flag dress LOL . If your in austrailia the movie that pops in my head is Precilla Queen of the desert. some other movies with drag queens would be "The Bird Cage", Too Wong Fu" and "Torch Song Trilogy". My favorite is Too Wong fu with patrick swayze, wesley snipes, and john legazoumo? This is a pic of PAtrick Swayze as Vida Bohemme. LOL its hard to look at him the same way after seeing him in drag.
Look at the dress and tell me it doesnt look like a betta LOL Last edited by Intrepidcub; November 16th, 2008 at 07:10 PM.

So what do you do for a $4 fish? A fish is a fish and needs to be taken care of right. Betta need heaters.
You can get them second hand if you look around.
Kensfish.com has 25 watt heaters for 8.75 each plus shipping. I got most of my heaters second hand for $5. |

| | Fish Bum | Im sorry if some of you get offended but ITS A FISH. So far i have discovered no matter what you do or say on this forum someone will always get ****ed off. I can read on every site, along with everyone i talk to about these fish if they will be compatible and then someone on here says no they arent and your a bad fish owner. If Betas are so important to have a heater than why do they come in a plastic cup, Why dont betta tanks come with heaters. I dont see petco or petsmart heating the water in these cups. If i find a heater for a cheap price i will get it if not im not going to. |

| | Moderator | Of course, it's up to you how you keep your fish.
A fish is a pet worthy of the care one would give any other pet.
The stores are in it to make money. We are not. We are here in the best interest of your fish. |
