Betta Food

About a week ago I bought a package of the special betta pellets. The package said feed about 4 pellets twice a day. I have been doing that and every time I feed him the pellets he spits them out. Then after a few minutes I feel bad and give him different food. My question is do most Bettas eat the Betta food right away or is it something they have to aquire a taste for? Should I keep trying to feed him the Betta food? Is it good for him? If it does not make a difference I will just feed him flakes and frozen food he has been eating.

I had the same problem. My betta does not like the pellets. Some times they will eat it and spit it out and eat it again etc...that is a way they chew their food. But as for my Betta - no way... he does not eat the pellets. Its always better to feed them a variety of foods. I give him dried flakes and blood worms. try doing that

I there are propbably more experienced betta owners, but I have heard that they can sometimes start out a little picky. How long have you had the betta? Maybe try putting the pellets with some garlic juice...

Some bettas are picky eaters but, he should get used to them.
I've heard the flakes aren't good for them and a regular basis.
If your betta is small, is it possible the pellets are too big for him?

Edit: Looks like we were all typing at the same time.

I have had him for a long time(about a 8 months). I had been looking at all the special Betta stuff at the store for a long time and decided to do something nice for him. I guess I spoiled him on the regular fish food. I do feed him frozen Blood worms and frozen brine shrimp and frozen Daphnia. I also do flakes and Nutrafin Max(a pelllet food). I know he was not starving but I wanted to do something nice for him.

Oh ok that is so sweet of you. I think your boy is pretty healthy! you are giving him plenty of good food - If he doesn't want the pellets (If he doesn't get use to them) then it's no big deal I'd say.

Haha! Oh yes they are! You should have seen the first time I gave my Betta a piece of pea... it was so funny... he was swimming all over the tank with the pea in his mouth not knowing what to do with it - LOL!!

I still feed him the pellets - most land on the bottom of the tank and the corries are amused by them. Every now and again my betta will actually eat one - very seldom though.

btw you should post a pic of your picky boy

What's the brand of the betta pellets?

He's got a nice variety in his diet already, but it would be good if you can get him to eat the pellets. One thing to try is fasting him for a day, then offering the pellets. I know it might possibly sound mean, but it's really not. Some people do that on a weekly basis to let the betta's system clean out to help prevent constipation.

You might need to offer the pellets a number of times to get him to eat one. If he eats that first pellet, he just might decide they're delicious.

My guy liked pellets from the start. I feed him what ever I feed my Discus. A little blood worm, a little beef heart. And his own pellets. He's colored up nicely since I brought him home. (note: tiny amounts)

Wow! What a beautiful boy you have. I nice, deep red. He looks very healthy, and by the way you feed him, I am sure he is happily spoiled. If he doesn't like the pellets, no big deal. You only wasted some money on him. But isn't he worth it?
