screw thermometer

I got a 10 gallon set up (heater, filter, thermometer, and well duh the tank) and the thermomenter is messed up I had cooler water for a while and it was reading at 80 F it felt more like 50-55 F WTF now it FEELS right but the thermometer says it almost 100F and i've reached in numerous times to make sure that wasn't true any ideas how to 'zero' (reset) a thermometer?

thanx

Re: screw thermometer

I don't think its possible to "reset" a thermometer. It sounds broken. I'd get a new one.

Re: screw thermometer

Remember that when water feels "warm" to us it is above 98.6 degrees because it has to be above our body temperature. the 80 degree temperature is going to feel cold to you because it is almost 20 degrees colder than your body temperature. I am not sure there is anything wrong with the thermometer. Try taking the thermometer probe (the part that goes into the water) and putting it under your arm pit for 10 minutes and seeing what the reading is. If it is anywhere near 97.6 your thermometer is okay. This is the old nurse in me and it is called taking an underarm temperature and is done in the hospital when other methods are not able to be used. Less accurate perhaps but good enough for this. :
