New additions to my betta family!!

So I'd been pretty bummed when my betta Tiger passed away and my mom's betta Red finally passed on Friday due to a tumor that had gotten too big for him to handle so we were doing a "girls day" kind of thing on Saturday when she decided that we needed to fill the tanks again.

So off to Petco we went to rescue some cup bound boys.

We ended up getting two new boys, brothers actually! When I saw my boy he kind of picked me. (You know how it goes.) He's pretty feisty. At the store he was flaring at everything. Another betta *flare*. My finger *flare*. And he kept trying to push out of the little cup and looking at me so I figured he wanted to go home. I got the hint!

I don't have pictures of mom's new boy yet, but here's my guy. He's gorgeous when he flares but I don't want to push him too much right now.

Name suggestions are always helpful! You guys are so good at naming bettas (and my boyfriend started calling him "Garlic" for some reason!)

I'm pretty excited!

OH, I have a question too. He won't eat the Hikari Bio Gold... I put one in yesterday and he got it into his mouth, broke it in half and then spit it out. He ate one this morning but he wouldn't touch any of the others I tried to get him to eat. Is this kind of a "wait it out and he'll eat when he gets hungry enough" thing or is there something else I can do? This is my first picky betta. My other boys have all been piggys!

Thanks everyone!

The camera picked up just a little more green than he actually has.

His blue looks more like a light powdery blue in some places and then in others it looks like a chambray almost gray blue.

He's a tie dye fish!

I'm guessing the reason my boyfriend called him Garlic was because his head is white and sort of shaped like garlic? He's a bit odd... HAHA

All the names sound great! I have the hardest time choosing just one... oh man...

Oh, and I hate to break it to you Steen, but I don't play video games or whatever so I don't know the characters you're referencing! :P

He is such a cutie pie Congrats on your new boy!

As far as his food goes, try soaking the pellets in garlic juice or garlic guard. This usually does the trick for any of my boys who have been reluctant to eat You could also try giving him 1-2 blood worms. He would probably love those

For a name...this is just off the top of my head....what about "Flare"?

He's very pretty. Just plain "Hippie" or some sort of Hippie name such as Ziggy or Jimi could also be appropriate, considering his tie-dye coloring and his oddness lol!

Skye, I think, is also a good Hippie name as MinxMermaid suggested but I wouldn't blame her if that's not the reason she suggested it in the first place and why I second it.

You also might want to consider Cloud as Alessa suggested, which I like, and you could narrow it down to types of clouds such as Cumulus depending on his true colors and whether his personality is gentle or fiesty.

I was going to say Hippie but you beat me to it, Pam!

Kelly

edited to add: he's a very lovely fish whatever his name is!!!

Ok so I think I'm going to call him Skye! Of course, my boyfriend says he's still going to call him Garlic. Such a stubborn guy!

Thanks Minx! I always love the names you come up with!! (Not that anyone elses names aren't equally as fabulous. Skye just seems to fit him.) And Pamd too!!

He ate all 4 of his pellets for breakfast this morning. I think he was just taking some time to acclimate to his tank. (And scaring mom half to death!) He's a brat!

He's such a handsome little guy! What eyes too!

Can you get New Life Spectrum "Grow" pellets? Those would fit in his little mouth and are good for young fish.

I'll have to look those up...

I'm almost positive I haven't seen them around before.

He is definitely smaller than any other betta I've had before. He's really young... I already thought about the size of the pellets and went to the chain stores around here (I haven't found any LFS in the area yet... Moving to a different town for school threw me off a bit!) and didn't find anything really. I hate flakes although I have them if he continues having trouble eating.

Do you know of any stores that would possibly have them? I can order them online but it'll take a while to get to me because I'd have to send them to my house and then go one of the weekends to pick them up... Sending packages to the school isn't particularly reliable.

So far, I've only found 1 LFS in Denver that sells the New Life Spectrum pellets, but a lot of online stores sell them and their website is http://nlsfishfood.com/

is 76 a normal temperature for this guy? I thought they prefer a higher one? 80?
