What is this?

My betta tank has been running for a week now with Sid happily(used established gravel and filter)..
But im starting to notice a slightly transparent white film over everything. I scraped some of and it feels a bit slimey, what could this stuff be?
Do you think its harmfull? Its on thick on the heater suction cups.
Any help would be appreciated

I've noticed that, too...I've always suspected a combination of algae and daphnia residue buildup.

I think it fungus or something like that. I'm pretty sure its bad.

It's a type of algae, not harmful but not good looking. Shows up in fairly new tanks. Wipe it off and after a bit shouldn't come back as the tank stabilizes.

Really? I kept cleaning mine up, and it kept coming back...which is why I think it was some sort of residue from the food, vitamins, or whatever. Definitely not the algae, then...too late to be relevant now, anyways.

I usually get it on the rubber/plastic parts in new tanks. Heater suction cups, bubbler tubes etc. May not be the same thing

Yea it must be. I get it on suction cups, air line tubing, and even the river stone substrate.. Yea its not very atractive and when you do a water change it gets all stirred up in the water and looks terable I wunder if there is a way to get rid of it?
I used to get it in my 65g I just left it then it went green(algae) and then the bn plecos ate it. But they didnt eat it when it was white.. Im thinking some type of snail could help get rid of it? Cause I have seen little snails eat it in my big tank..

I was getting that in my 5 gallon acrylic tank that I used to have my betta in. I had always assumed it probably Aloe Vera from the Stress Coat I used to condition the water.

It may be, because I use stress coat to condition my water for water changes in all my tanks and I get the white stuff in all my tanks, just realy bad in my betta tank

My mystery snail eats it in the tanks they are in... I also wondered what it was and it really shows on the black rubber parts of equipment.

I grt that too..but not in my 55 Gal only in the small Betta tanks. I use those aquarium wipes to get it off.
