female betta advice please

i have a 120litre community tank with guppys, platys, dwarf gouramis and a male betta. i bought on impulse today 4 lovely female bettas. the petstore said my male betta will be fine with them. can i just double check with you all that he was right as you know more about bettas than anyone ive come across xx

Hi helen,
Personally, I wouldn't put the females in the community tank. Bettas normally don't play well with others and I'd be afraid someone would get hurt or killed. Not to mention the mating ritual between a male and female can be violent.
I'd suggest you get them each a tank of their own and enjoy their individual beauty and personalities for what it can be without the stress or aggression.

Good luck.

You can divide the tanks and put 2 females in each tank...one on each side of the divider...good luck.

That's a good idea, if you divided them it would work out fine.

Don't forget to post some pics soon!

edit: lol, Fishies-for-me and I were thinking alike.

Moved thread to the Betta section.

Our forum is split up into different sections for different topics. On the main page, if you look at the largest sections (the one with bright blue highlit bars), you'll see "General" "Photos" "Freshwater" "Saltwater" etc... These will be further broken down into sub-sections.
If you've got a question about freshwater stuff, the best way to get answers is to start in the freshwater section, then look through the sub-sections, find the closest one (in this example, it was "Freshwater"-"Betta") and post your question there. There's also a "beginners" section, if you've got a number of simple questions you want to ask in one post.

And, Welcome to Fishlore, if I haven't already said so.

Welcome to Fishlore!!!
I agree with the above suggestions, perhaps for now divided tanks for your females will work,I used to use divided tanks and for the most part there ok,but if one gets sick then the other isn't far behind usually.Better to have separate tanks if you can...
also sorry to hear of your break in,that must have been terribly disturbing
