| Male or female? Hello everyone, I just got a new betta from a local pet store. The cup was marked as 'Halfmoon betta' but it didn't specify if it was male or female. With the crown-tails and vail-tails they had 'female' stickers so I thought maybe it was a boy, but the fins are way too small.
So either its a girl, or its a boy with small fins. Its only a little over an inch long so maybe his fins didnt grow out yet? Anyway, I want to name it but I cant do that until I find out the gender.
If its a girl, I was thinking Artemis, and if it was a boy, I wanted Archimedes.
Thanks so much!

| It looks like a very young halfmoon male to me...He appears to have some damage to his top fin...You may want to start treatment with some vitachem, garlic guard and fish protector so it doesn't get any worse...
He's very handsome by the way..... |

| In case of internal infection treat him with triple sulfa or a similiar med. Maracyn 2 works. This is only if he doesn't respond to the additives that MM mentioned. When the fins grow back you can see the regrowth, it's much thinner. |

| Ok, so I added some vitachem and fish protector, and I have some trisulfa at the ready...
I have another betta that suffered from fin rot too, so I had a bunch of meds to begin with. Good thing.
Thanks a lot, guys! I'm glad I came here first thing. You're always such a huge help. |

| Isn't he? But his personality is what really caught me. He was so friendly when I picked him up, and very lively. I window shop at pet stores all the time just because I like looking at the bettas they have. I never meant to buy a new one just yet, but I fell in love with him. I'm glad I took him home though, I don't know how much treatment he would have gotten in the store.
Anyway, its too soon to tell if his fins are healing, but he's already settling into his new home. He had some signs of stress lines but they're gone, and he's eating without hesitation. I'm sure you all know how happy and excited I am, hahaha. Thanks for all your help and as soon as his fins start growing I'll update the pictures if you want. =) |

| Could've the change in color heve to do with the fact that he is better cared for now and that he is lessed stressed? He originally looks like his color is faded. |

| Wow, what a remarkable transformation. He was very pretty before but now he's beautiful! Good job!
Did you treat him with just the Vitachem and Fish Protector, or did you wind up having to use medications? |

| Is that normal for these tiny white bettas to change into a bright colored ones? I see them in our local Petsmart/Petco store and wonder who buys these almost colorless fish. |

| Yes it is very normal for a pale washed out stressed fish to color up once he is home into a clean warm filtered comfortable tank and he relaxes...actually it is common for a lot of fish to brighten up and get more intense in color in your tank after being crowded into a dealer tank with many other fish .
