I work in an area with about 3 different shopping plazas, so on my lunch breaks I go to a different store each day. Well today just happened to be the day I go to the petstore. I walked in the door and as I passed the
betta shelves I saw a red and white blur out of the corner of my eye. I turned around, went back to the shelves, and began pushing the cups to the sides until I uncovered a white and red betta, darting back and forth across his cup, flaring at everything in sight. There was a betta, he flared. A fly came by, he flared. I picked him up, he flared.
He was so active I knew immediately that I had to have him or I would just die. The problem was that it was my lunch break. I still had to go back to work for another 3 1/2 hours. So, I asked one of the workers if I could borrow her sharpie, I put little stars all over the cover of the cup, and hid him all the way in the back in the middle of all the bettas.
I went back to work. I waited. I fidgeted. It was the longest afternoon of my life.
At 5pm I made a beeline for the exit that now I was probably a big blur that only partially resembled a human being. I sped all the way to the petstore only slightly letting up on the gas pedal as I went mach 1 passed a police car. As I got closer my heart began to beat faster. What if the new love of my life had been taken by someone else? Would I ever love again?
I parked. I achieved the new world record for the car door to pet store door dash. I pushed all the cups away and there he was, safe and sound and waiting for me.
I heaved such a sigh of relief.
Sorry the picture is fuzzy but the little guy just won't stay still!
