Ok I hope to be geting a betta soon. The place where im going to get it does not take good care of there fish. But as its the only store that will take my molly fry i have to go there. At least its a chance for them to live (i cant kill them). Im going to try and trade them in for a betta. Since this betta will be QT in a 1g tank im thinking of using Melafix because the betta will probaly have something rong with it. I this a good idea?

The instructions say 5ml for every 10g. So in a 1g tank it would be half a ml? that seems not a lot. should i give 1ml instead

No do not give a ml it should be no more than 0.5 ml per gallon. Melafix may be a herbal remedy but it is a medication and can be overdosed. Yes I would definitely do a week at least of Melafix (and Pimafix at the same time if you can manage) to clear up any parasites and possible starting infections. The stress of moving even though it is to a better place could get some bacteria that has been dormant a chance to grow. I only have one really serious question though. I am assuming that if you are going to quarantine in a one gallon, you have no way to heat since it is not safe to heat in less that 2.5 gallon and then only with extreme caution. You do know that he will be very prone to the cool water diseases during this time right? You are going to have to watch very closely for ICH and finrot even with the Melafix and Pimafix as the meds do work best at about 82 degrees and you will have no way to control the temperature.

Just watch very close and try to get him through the quarantine period and into a nice warm tank as soon as is possible.
