Gil inflammation generally means water quality problems. While I am very sorry that you lost the little guy, is your tank cycled fully? If not the second little guy will need frequent water changes to keep him healthy (he sounds lovely). Also if you are going through hurricanes are you testing your tap water to make sure it is pure and all. Sometimes storms like this can affect water supplies and make them unsafe for fish but safe yet for humans. (can raise the
nitrate levels or other levels from run off due to storm drainage) If this is the case the only real safe water is bottled water. Not to be alarmist but just run a nitrate test to check for high levels.
