Betta splendens are usually 3.5" without fins at the most. There are giants usually plakats which can be 4-5", but cost a pretty penny.

Thank you...No....They are not a community fish.....The reason he looks like he does is beacuse he lives alone..

It's a little of both. Before ever putting a betta in a community. Keep him in his own 5g to see what temperment he has. I have had 1 fella who loved it in the community 20g, but all the rest like it alone.
98% of the betta aren't in communities b/c of the feeding. Betta are pigs with fins and will eat unti they are sick.

What MM said
Protien is best for betta, so make sure to pick out a high quality pellets. I also feed my girls and all my fish, thawed frozen shrimp uncooked. 1 Piece of shrimp can feed a lot of fish.

Hobzz, good luck.

Ours do fine in community tanks and do fine with flake food, but they do get a large variety of foods.

Flake foods (both tropical and veggie)
Mysis shrimp
Bloodworms (frozen and freeze dried)
brine shrimp
Pellets (cichlid forumla, veggie, algae, earthworm, shrimp, etc)

Have another tank ready in case it doesn't work out. Some bettas don't play well with others.

a betta has been added !!! so far he is good but he is having problems trying to keep still, the current water runs pretty strong, is that bad?

He's probably weak from being in a cup. In time, his fins will become stronger.
In the mean time, put a plant or something in front of the out take.

Is this tank cycled? What other fish are in it?

well i sitll havent found the master kit!! i had water running fishless for 3 weeks and addind a little bit of flakes when i go home, some ammonia starting to show because i have the amonia kit i tested it. and the pH went up a bit but i lower it, i work a lot so i test everything late at night, some aleage has groun in there but the water looks clear, the temp its 78, filters good a bit green but ok!! so i decided to add some fish in there,
they are all small fish,
*pleco
* albino shark
* bull shark
* 2 glass fish
* 2 balla sharks
* 2neon tetras
* betta
55 galons
i hope i dont have too many fish, they look really small tho!
by the way crayfish are doing good in the 10 gl tank, they get along they fight sometimes but the respect their houses everyone has a house so no worries they come out to eat planty food in there!!

Your neons are little fin nippers, they might go after the betta. Keep a really close eye on them.

Personally, I would have the betta alone.
