Depends on which set of his numbers you use!

If the total capacity is 35 gallons like he claims, each of the compartments would hold 5.83 gallons.

If you use his length/width/height numbers on the Fishlore aquarium calculator, you get 30.97 gallons, which would be 5.16 gallons per compartment.

Either way, they're about the right size for dwarf puffers! And I'm sure that's what you planning to get, right? Right?

That would be perfect for betta...roughly 5.5g each. If you need it for breeding it can be divided with something for even more room for betta babies.

I'm just a little curious on how you would heat, filter cover and light it.

I have two heaters, one at each end...and they do make small filters for each compartment, but I choose to have just two small 5 gal ones and the water flows thru each divider...plus I bubble wands in the other two compartments...you can purchase a special light for the top or have one big lamp that hangs over ....

Well I'll start with I live in AZ and it never gets cold enough for a heater lol....I would have little peices of glass cut to fit each cubical.....As far as filtration I am going to have to see the unit first..Most likely I'd drop a small filter in each section....I haven't heard back from the guy so my dream tank may not even become a reality

A small sponge filter in each or a HOB filter in each section would be ideal. (actually the best arrangement) Arizona residents can probably get by with no heaters as long as they do not over Air Condition their homes. As far as light goes a pendant light system with a glass top would be the ideal set up for this tank I think. Let the light hang suspended over the tank and use one or even two of the large glass tops with the hinged lids for feeding that have the strips you can cut to allow for filters and such. I have one on Diablo's tank and love it. He now knows what the little door opening in the front means and comes right to the front to get his "nummies".

I sure hope you can get it as I have never known anyone with 50 bettas in their home before .

Hi Karen
I just came across this thread... WOW that is such a nice idea for Betta's! I agree that the small sponge filters would be ideal. And I love the idea of a hanging lamp over the tank. That would look really sharp!
Hope Im not to late to say GOOO FOR IT!...

The reason I would still vote for a HOB in each compartment first is that the sponge filters are lovely for aeration and take the place of an airstone and all but they do nothing about removing meds if you ever need to do it as they contain no carbon and they also take up quite a bit of space for the swimming area. The HOB filters only have the little stem that reaches into the tank to draw the water into the filter and then it cascades back into the tank it would be lovely and you can put a small independent airstone or airwand of a type in eack section in if you wish. The possibilities are endless for them but the main concern is to provide the best aeration as they will be short on water movement in that tank and need a lot of aeration to make up for it. So each section will need a wand or stone of some type for sure. Even a disc would be nice. Wiring for that tank will be a challenge too as you will have multiple air filters no matter what. Each of the stronger ones that I have seen only have 2 outlets and I would not try to branch off many times as I know from my tanks that even my smaller tanks need good aeration and the airpumps I use are over the size needed for the tank size just to make sure and I have the battery operated ones for back up too. You would be surprised how many times they come on with the sponge filters using the battery part but they run full time plugged in to the house current too. I actually have 2 HOB filters and one sponge filter in Diablo's tank and he is only in a 10 gallon. I am just obsessive I guess. The others have a bio-wheel and a sponge in each tank.

Rose

Congratulations on the purchase of the tank and I will look forward to the new bettas. Just remind Steve that he only has one betta and he has to catch up to you so he has a ways to go.
