Forum etiquette?

Ok, so I was just reading a bunch of stuff online about bettas and came across another forum that appears to a little lacking in betta knowledge. A few of the members have posted that they are having a hard time finding places to get good betta advice. In reading some of the posts, they are giving each other advice that I've seen here are major NO-NO's. (Examples: Someone had just bought a betta and wanted to put 5 Lemon Tetras and 2 loaches in his 10 gallon tank with his betta and another person has a 5 gallon tank with no filter and does water changes every 2 weeks.)

Would it be improper to put a link to this forum so that they may receive proper, correct information? I am not sure how that works and I wouldn't want this forum to "get in trouble" for stealing members or something.

I just thought I would ask.

Re: Forum etiquette?

Thank you for asking about that before doing it.

I would recommend sending an email or a PM to that forum's admin asking if it's ok to do that.* Personally, I have no problem with* posting links to other places if they will indeed help our members.* The keyword there is "helpful".* If you are genuinely trying to help someone with a problem they are having and you know where to get an answer, why not post a link?* But that's just me.* EDIT: I believe that's the way most everyone on the FishLore forum is - they will genuinely try to help you with problems and will try not to make you feel like an idiot while doing so.

Thanks,
Mike*

Re: Forum etiquette?

I wouldn't personally see a problem with especially being an admin of my own forum. But definately PM the moderators first they might not like the idea

Re: Forum etiquette?

Well, I can't seem to find who to PM. They are currently looking for an editor for their fish site so maybe that's why there is incorrect info being given out.

I would apply for the position but I'm not sure I know enough about fish to do it even though I haven't seen listed an experience requirements ...

Re: Forum etiquette?

If they are looking for an editor, then there must be a way to get ahold of someone. Just follow the link to the information to apply for the job. If you don't want or feel you are qualified to do the job, then perhaps the person you reach will be able to tell you who to contact about your idea.

Re: Forum etiquette?

Right ... I do think I saw someplace to post a comment or something but I haven't had a chance to further investigate yet.
