| The Betta and the Minibow 2.5 So I just moved by betta from a 1g Top FinŽ Aqua Scene Desktop Aquarium to a Minibow 2.5 with the Whisper Micro Filter that came with it. I noticed that whenever he swims to the side of the tank with the filter it appears that the current is pushing him down to the bottom of the tank.
Has this happened to anyone else who keeps a Betta in the Minibow 2.5?
Should I turn the filter off?
Should I leave it running to see if he just needs to adjust to being in a tank with a filter?
I don't want to hurt his labyrinth organ so I'm not sure what is the best course of action.
Thanks!
PS: I turned the filter off for a few minutes just to see if he seemed to keep dropping to the bottom even when it is not running and he does not. In fact, he is swimming all over the tank like a very happy fish so I am thinking he is not sick. Last edited by cognizant; August 30th, 2008 at 12:53 PM.

| I'm glad he's in a bigger tank.
It might take him a little while to build up his stength.
Remember he hasn't had much of a chance to spread his fins.
I'm not familiar with the type of filter in the 2.5, but I have 5g mini bow. Does it have a flow adjustment?
You could put some plants in front of the outtake or shove some filter floss into it to lessen the current until he gets stronger.
I'm glad he's enjoying his swim. |

| Thanks for the suggestion, Lucy! I put a plant in front of the filter and it seems to have helped. |

| Some pictures of him in the new tank:
This is a close up. Not sure if you can tell in the picture but he is all blue except for a few splashes of red on the ends of his tail. He also looks a little haggard from the move and the filter problem we were having.
Him in the new tank. It almost looks as though he was trying to turn around for the camera! |

| LOL I just didn't think he would look right in a purple or green tank. They clash with blue! |

| We had similar issues with Lemon in his mini bow as the filter doesn't have an adjustment.
But he got used to it, and i put pleny of stuff around the bottom. He LOVES his Mini bow, that's at my store.
I'm sure your betta will love his new tank, maybe just add a little house for shelter when he wants to rest. |

| I noticed that neither of you have visible heaters in your tanks, so I have to ask - how are you keeping your tanks warm and stable? |

| I have a thermometer on the side of the tank. The room the betta is in is my bedroom, the temperature of the room is always between 80-82F. If my room goes over 80 degrees I turn the A/C on in the room. I can't stand the cold so it's not a problem... MY room temperature is the temperature the betta needs. In fact, the A/C doesn't even face me, it faces away from the bed and the end table the betta is on. |

| Butterfly, you are totally amazing! I found the control and lowered it, it is so much better now. Thank you so much.
Also, here is a picture that shows his red and blue coloring: |

| Yea, the standard filter with the 2.5g does have the adjustable flow, which is nice.. but you can also swap that filter for an Azoo palm filter to get back all that tank space the filter takes up. |

| So I discovered today that the Micro Filter that comes with the Minibow 2.5 is actually for up to a 10 gallon tank. There is a smaller less powerful whisper filter (3i) for up to a 3 gallon tank which may work better in the Minibow. It's about 1/3 the size of the micro filter. So I bought it and figured I would give it a shot. I kept the the micro filter just in case. |

| LOL, That's funny.. as I like to use those filters for 5g hex tanks as well. |
