Betta Falx

Someone on the betta breeders Canada site is selling these mouth brooding betta...I think I may get some in a bit if she still has fry. They've been breeding like crazy for her. $3 each or 4/$10 unsexed plus shipping.
What do you betta people think of these guys...plain but nice.

I think they're great! I was supposed to get falx at the same time as I got my channoides, but they sent simplex instead. They're really similar, though, and I love em. You'll fall in love with wilds once you have some I think... they have loads of personality!

YAY!! I want to try a different type of betta for a change. I bet all betta species have personalities like the splendens.

They actually tend to have really different personalities, but neat ones all the same. So far all the different complexes I've kept have had different ways of being and acting, while at the same time still being obviously 'betta'. I really like how they can be so different, but so similar at the same time!

I'm a Splendens addict...I think I like the long flowing fins because of my show dogs...There is just something about them that has captured me...

I'd love to hear how it goes if you get these guys Allie....I wonder if it is easier to keep and breed them...

We have a dozen of them here is a VERY heavily planted tanks.
We got them as tiny tiny fry, so no babies yet.

Neat fish, but I've got a question about them. The site listed above says that they live in much lower temps than splendens. Is this information correct?

Our dozen are in a 38g tall tank with a 6-8 inch diameter potted plant and the entire surface is loaded to the brim with water lettuce. (The water lettuce we use is stuff we grow outdoors during the spring and summer months, so the roots are over a foot in length, which makes great obstacle "breaker-uppers".

Edit to answer SDS: Ours are thriving in the same temperature that our Splendens are thriving in, but I'm unsure on temp differences of natural habitat.

Yes, a lot of the mouthbrooders come from streams, etc in the hills where it's cooler (they mouthbrood because the water has a strong flow and would destroy a bubble nest) I keep mine around 73-76 and they seem quite happy, but when the temp gets up too high (as it did a couple of times this summer) they get kind of stressy and faded.

Oh I love them too, but I have trouble keeping the fancy fins fellas. Once I have my girls for 6 months no issues then I will get more boys. Gosh if I could have my way I'd have a tank of every species of fish which I have fallen in love with.
