I just bought this boy through Buy It Now on Aquabid! Click the image to open in full size.

Devon had posted a link in Pandora's thread about her spectacular new fish:

Yeah my jaw dropped when I saw him. I would have fought you for him if I had any money right now, lol.

He's BEAUTIFUL. And so, so glad to know that he's going to someone that will care for him properly. What will you name him?

I don't know when I'll receive him. I am so unprepared for a new guy, and told the seller, Zeph, that he might need to hold the fish for a few days. I'm sure Zeph will cooperate in the best interest of me and especially the fish.

I see some of the fish's flaws that would eliminate him from breeding stock, but I think he's just gorgeous for a pet. He appears to me to be a dragon, a halfmoon (almost, not perfect), dalmation, and iridescent/metallic. So much in one fish!

His tank is now next to my computer monitor, and I think he'll like it here. It's my used three-gallon Eclipse, and I just got it out tonight. It's not set up, just sitting here empty. Little copper fish is a tiny little baby at three months old, so it should be fine for him, and I'll make sure it's cycled. And I know Karen's beautiful Patron is doing great in a small tank that is filtered and heated, similar to this one, near her computer. It's the next best place I have for activity besides the kitchen. The only place in the kitchen that doesn't get direct sunlight belongs to Candi.

I've already daydreamed about names, and the first one that popped to mind was Puff, as in the old Peter, Paul and Mary song, "Puff the Magic Dragon." As a double-entendre, it would be a fun name for him if he's a flarer. However, depending on his personality, he might need a more noble and dignified name, such as Armour as Karen suggested.

I have to say that although I have never really been overly impressed or all that into bettas, your copper colored dragon here, and I believe it was Pandoras silver and red dragons REALLY make me want to get a betta tank and get one of these!!!

That would be awesome for you to head down to Tucson for a visit and to meet and photograph the new guy, and Candi too!!!! I might just take you up on your offer to head back up your way again to get some of Will's media to seed the new guy's tank. However, that'll mostly be just an excuse to visit again.

I found Bio-Spira here in town. I'm kind of suspicious of it because of possible handling/refrigeration and since the container is not dated. It might be a rumor widely propagated around the Internet, but as I understand it, the parent company of Tetra bought out Marineland (maker of Bio-Spira), discontinued Bio-Spira, and is now offering SafeStart under the Tetra brand name, which doesn't have to be refrigerated. SafeStart sounds like a better bet and has user reviews as good as Bio-Spira, but I've searched high and low for it in town and on the Internet. So far, I've only found it here:

Aquariumplants.com

I can hijack my own thread, right? Anybody have any experience with Aquariumplants.com? I sure don't want to use the new copper dragon boy to cycle a tank!

I am not familiar with that supplier, but I had to tell you - you just made me want a betta! He is absolutely stunning!

On another note, I once had an iguana named Pendragon. I like Arthurian names. He could be a Lancelot or a Gawaine or a Mordred or....

That's it. I'm getting another tank!!

Lancelot! Hmmmmm, might be the perfect name. Again, I'll just have to wait to meet him. I've also thought of Norbert: Hagrid's baby dragon in the Harry Potter tales, before Norbert grew up.

Very interesting that three non-betta people saw my and Pandora's dragon bettas and are now "converted." To all of you: You'll love them, not just for their looks, but especially for their personalities! Well, I think the dragons will have huge personalities that connect with their humble people, just like the rest of the bettas do!

I bought tetra safe start from aquariumplants.com and i was less than impressed. They receive such good reviews and i believe mine was a one off, but it put me off them.

1st i did 2nd day delivery which was ment to be delivered on a friday and didnt it sat in the UPS warehouse until tuesday when it got delivered finally. The plants didnt look great but they refused to refund the money or replace the plants + i ordered 2 bottles of tetra safe start and only one arrived!! Amazingly they did redeem themselves slightly by sending out the other bottle of safe start ground delivery (which arrived quicker than 2nd day??)

This was my only experience with them i'm sure people have had good experience and i was an unlucky one.

Congrats on the new boy, hes so handsome.

Norbert is a great name, too! So cute! Maybe I will save "Lancelot" for when I get mine.

I have always thought bettas were lovely, but I was put off by the whole "one to a tank" thing. I can only talk Husband into so many aquariums and I can't push my luck when we're about to move.

Good luck with your new baby. I look forward to many more pictures! <nudgenudgewink>

Thanks for the tip about Paradise Pets. I called them to see if I could get overnight or two-day shipping. The guy was really nice, but the shipping was going to be $19. Thanks also to Annadvn for sharing her experience with aquariumplants.com.

Yes! Fabulous! I'll call you, okay? BTW, I saw your kind offer after calling Paradise Pets. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered them.
