| 3 days until I leave for school! I've been slowly packing up everything, and I move to the school on Saturday. I don't know if the wireless network they've got requires a password, so I don't know when I'll be back online. I've got my soft-sided cooler, the styrofoam cooler, and fishie bags to move Kappa, and I've been sorting through what of her stuff I'm going to bring (I've got extras of a LOT of things, mostly filters/filter pads). When I am back online, maybe even Saturday (I can hope, right?), I'll let you all know how the 2+ hour move went. I figure I'm going to take her tank down last thing before I go, and put it back up first thing when I get there, so that she isn't without heat and filtration for too long. I don't know what I may have to do when I get there, but my room should be open so I can set her up before going off to do whatever it is they're going to need me to do. |

| Good luck and we will be thinking of you. Visit us when you can and tell Miss Kappa that she will be a more experienced world traveler now.

| Thanks, Rose. Kappa won't exactly be a "world" traveler, though...we're not even leaving the state! |

Congrats on the move and I hope all goes well! Are fish allowed or will you be smuggling her in? |

| Fish ARE allowed, no smuggling required, which is why I looked into bettas in the first place. |

| Am I forgetting anything? Now, for those of you who have moved fishies (Rose, Dave, anyone with repeated experience with it), what's the word on the water to air ratio in the fishie bag? I know to put Kappa in the baggie with water and air, not too much air or the water will slosh her around, but the bag needs air so that she doesn't lose too much oxygen on the trip. I've seen...Dave, I think...mention breathable fishie bags, but the ones I have are just normal bags so far as I can tell. I know to put the bag in the soft-sided insulated lunch bag then pad that with a towel and put it in the styrofoam cooler, which will both cushion her trip and keep her temperature stable. I've got a tight-sealing lid for my 5-gallon bucket, which will hold some of the current tank water, the filters and filter pads, and the decor/marble substrate to keep my bacteria alive. I know the water parameters will probably be different at school, most likely a distinct difference in the pH, so I want to keep as much of the tank water as I can so that I can slowly change her current water out for school water, giving her a chance to acclimate to the new conditions. Am I forgetting anything? |

| Can't answer most recent questions, but good luck with the move.
You may have to have a password, depending on the size/location of the campus. All of my local colleges are in the middle of a metropolitan area, and if they didn't have password protection, the bandwidth would be sucked up by everyone in the neighborhood. It's usually your login for accessing your college online account, so it's usually pretty easy to log in. |

| From what I've read about shipping fish by mail (and seen when my bettas were shipped from Florida) is 2/3 air and 1/3 water. Dave and Rose will know better than me though. |

| Actually, IT emailed the network login info earlier today, so I'm all set for when I get on campus. |

| We do about 2/3rd water and 1/3rd air for the Bettas. When they come in from Thailand, they're in little bags with an even higher ratio of water and fine on having had enough air. Good luck and I'm sure you'll get her there with no problem at all. |

| I agree with Dave on the ratio and since it is a matter of hours instead of days it will be plenty of air for her and give her plenty of water to play in on the way. It will be fine and I am sure she will make the trip fine.
Good luck and enjoy the time at school. I enjoyed my time at college more than I realized until it was over. Having Kappa there to keep you company will make it even nicer. Write when you can but we do realize that you will be very busy for a while and will be patient.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers for your safe trip.

(if you have a camera there...) It's good to know she's happy in the new location. Is the pH different to your home water, out of interest? |

| My computer is being wonky and won't connect to the network, so I'm on the computer in the common room. I'll upload pics when my own computer is doing what I say. Her tank isn't really set up any differently, she's just in a better-lit space, and doesn't have her construction paper background. As for the pH, I haven't checked yet, but I brought literally ALL of her tank water so that if it is different, it will change slowly through water changes so that she can adapt to any new water conditions. |

| I'm so glad to hear you and Kappa made it safely there! Best of luck to both of you in the coming school year! Kappa will be lots of company, keep you up when you need to study, and provide some soothing reflection when you're stressed. I can't think of anything better to bring along than a betta and a laptop to college! |
