Hehe Consuela is sooo cute, she keeps making eyes at him through the divider; can't wait to get their new tank planted so that the poor girl might have some distraction from seeing him all the time, Esteban sure is a heartbreaker!!

Hehe I don't have a video camera or I would totally make a short vid of this... she swims back and forth like she's racing in the Olympics, then stops and gives him puppy eyes, like he is the one that can open the divider and let her come visit! I'm just glad that I have such a good divider or I might wake up to find her on the other side!!

LOL... I wouldn't breed bettas at the present time (not enough room/time!) But I always read up on it... because someday maybe I will be able to!

I thought it was funny when Steve asked me this morning why I had the divider in the tank..He said don't you want to breed those 2? I just chuckled...He was talking about Lenox and Zero! He thinks Zero is a female because he is so tiny lol..He doesn't pay much attention to how many I have anymore (which is a good thing) lol

Part of it is the natural energy a lot of the young females have. Our Chloe is always swimming the length of her bookshelf tank, back & forth, back & forth and at food time.. well, even faster. Has she shown any bars?

She sure has more energy than I ever have!! lol

She's very plump and showing eggs, but I don't know what to look for in terms of bars? I have seen diagrams showing where they are supposed to appear, but I don't think I have the eye for it... anyone have examples?

I think she likes him! And who can blame her for having the hots for such a handsome guy!
She wouldn't show bars though... her body is too pale. They only show up on dark bodied girls.
I don't have any good pictures of them... I'll try to get some if you like. All my girl pics have really faint bars but it's not really obvious! It's thick alternating bands of dark and light.

Yeah, just on the body, not the fins.
Poor Esteban's probably thinking he's not quite handsome enough or his nest isn't quite big enough for her to not be barring at him too! So many colours so far removed from what the wild ones are you have to wonder if that messes up their communication sometimes lol

Oh no!! LOL... Esteban knows how pretty he is, don't be fooled! He swims around with his tail stretched open and his nose up high... never knew a fish could strut before I met him. She swims around like crazy trying to get his attention, and he just hangs back by his nest and crooks his little fin. I think he likes the attention!
I did a water change yesterday that ruined his big bubble nest in the photos, but when I woke up this morning he already had another huge one made again, hehe. I will post more pictures of them soon.

It's always so funny to see how different their personalities are, especially when interacting with the opposite sex
Some boys get all 'omg giiiirl!' and don't know what to do with themselves, while others are suave teases like it sounds Esteban is!

don't you LOVE that? we did water changes the other day on all the bettas and by the next morning ALL had new nests started, and some quite big already.

at the store, Lemon's bubble is always so big and he is constantly adding to it, that its like 3 bubbles thick!

if you look from the top its raised out of the water like a quarter inch where the bubbles are just double and trippled up on top of each other!!

i just LOVE bubble nests

oh and i LOVE, LOVE ESTEBAN!!!

Pretty much! He rushes at her FAST, flaring and acting tough, then quickly swims under the nest and hovers so she can see his big tail flared open there. He's definitely trying to entice her over! If this nonsense doesn't stop pretty soon they are getting their own tanks, though. There's too much twitterpation for me!!

Yea, that's what the male does when he's ready to mate. From what I've read on breeding them, that's when the female could be let free to then follow him if she approved of the nest and had produced eggs.

I would say that the combo in that tank needs to be male/male. LOL

I think it would have me really worried if I did not want them spawning to have all this activity. It may be too stressful to them.

You may end up with finrot or some other stress related problem with one or both of them if they stay stressed this way.

And Lemon, dear, it is the BETTA ladies you make a bubblenest for not HUMAN ladies. You are a little confused, my little man.
