New with a question about my betta

Hi, I am desparate for some answers! I love my Nemo (daughter named him) and I can't seem to make him better. But here's the thing, I think it bothers me more than him! I thought he had fin rot and treated him on a course of Tetracycline, which did nothing other than turn my water orangey brown and make lots of foam on the water surface. Then I tried Maracyn....no luck there either. It didn't seem to make any difference what so ever. Then I moved him to the 1 gallon bowl so I could really make sure his water was pristine. But yet now he has white edges to his fins. He is active an eats like a horse! Of course, I don't over feed him but he would if I let him! I would post a pic but I don't know how..... Can anyone help me?

You shouldnt have moved him to a bowl... bowls do not have any bacteria and will get high ammonia and nitrates very quickly... moving him also probably only stressed him out even worse, my advice would be to get him back in the filtered and heated tank asap before things get any worse

What I use for treating fin rot is Triple Sulfa and Rid Fungus. Fin rot often is both bacterial and fungal in origin and the Rid Fungus provides a way to treat both with a lower amount of harsh meds. If you can add Garlic Guard, Fish Protector and Vita-Chem, they help the immune system and healing.

we treated our mild fin rot with fungus eliminator and more severe case with triple sulfa and in both cases they cleared up right away and new fins growing back, aided by good diet and vitachem.

The only reason I moved him is because I am having issued with my 10 gallon tank at the moment and didn't want that to be a factor in his healing. I am having an algae bloom that I can't get rid of. My numbers are great, I am not overfeeding, my pH is low but that is it. The tank is not by a window so I can't figure this out. I made the mistake of doing a 90% water change and changing the filter, so then I got cloudy water and it just started turning green and murky. I have done 25% water changes every 4 days or so and it helps for a little bit but then the water turns murky again.

Welcome to FishLore!

I was looking at your profile. You didn't have the betta and the other fish all in the same tank did you?

Betta's are not community fish and should be kept alone.

Additionally a Betta shouldn't be in a tank with a goldfish, since Betta require a tank temperature of 79-80 degrees whereas goldfish are cold water fish.

SAE's also need a much bigger home. Something like 29gal minimum I'd say.

if you changed your filter in the tank that probably got rid of your beneficial bacteria...
If you want to really help that guy, you should get him a 5 gallon, filtered and heated, with daily 50% water changes until it cycles.

as everyone already mentioned, bettas should be kept alone in a heated, cycled and filtered tank, goldfish are coldwater fish and need 20 gallons all for themselves, and the SAE need like 30 gallons heated.
