My wife's birthday is coming up, and she's been missing Sun Ce (she took more to the bettas than she did to the tank she helped design and set up), so I took her out to a fish store to pick up a new family member.
He has colored up quite a bit since we got him home. At the store, he was almost completely white with an iridescent shimmer to his body. He's now turned mostly pale blue/green with little pink/purple highlights.
The pictures aren't the greatest, as I still don't have a decent digital camera (though our new camcorder works better for stills than our other camera).
I've got a video of him. I'll probably post it on YouTube and post a link here.
I do have one question, though. I've never seen any pictures of bettas with the guppy-style-delta-tail. It just looks like his natural tail shape to me, rather than damage, but I wanted others' opinions on that. He does have a few ripped fins, but that's to be expected considering he was in a breeder box about the size of the PetSmart cups (slightly better, because there's at least constant water flow).

Yes, Butterfly, it is. I didn't see that trait in the "tail and finnage types" thread, so I wasn't sure. I've got to say that I like his double tail better than the "preferred" type of double tail, which has equally sized round lobes. He's more of a double veil-tail.
Thank you for confirming that so I wasn't panicking about his health.
Here's the vid. It's the first thing taken with my new camera.
I love how, toward the end, it seems like he knows that I'm recording him. shimmy shimmy flare shimmy shimmy flare.
The worst and best thing about fishlore, is the way it inspires you to wanting more fish! In little over a week it's made, no, FORCED me to become a massive betta fan, and everyday I look at my desk next to my bed, and think how much betta (hahahaha) my life would be with a betta fish there!
