Sleepy mums new betta has just had a growth spurt and his mouth looks odd. He is still small enough that i have to use a magnifying glass to get a good look but either he has a deformed top lip OR mouth rot we i have ( luckily) no experience of.

He is eating and VERY lively. Finnage is stunning BUT i am concerned! ALL tanks get 'VPG' ( vitamins,protector and garlic) 3 times a week stat, not sure if i should add a broad spectrum mild med in case!

Any knowledgable advice?? thoughts anyone?? I will def try and get a pic problem is keeping him still enough for me to zoom in!!! ( Still not been able to get a decent pic of Sari/Stan!!! because of his speed!!! )

have added paraguard from seachem. I have used that when not sure before and good results. Just looked at his tiny baby pics, def something going on!!

We had a female betta, one of the two cases of fin-rot we've ever had in the fishhouse, that had "mouth rot" also. She has barely enough of an upper mouth area left to eat, but looks as though it is all gone.

We used methylene blue, a mild antibiotic, for about a week on her tank and had a heater keeping the tank to 83 degrees farenheit for about two weeks. She pulled through, and is continuing to do well at about 2-2.5 years of age.

Thanks CW. I have meth blue in the store box. This little guy has no bad fins at all which is why i wonder if it is a birth defect!! Thanks for input.....i WILL still try for a pic though!!

Is the spot fuzzy or colored differently?

One of my female betta Molly had it last year, she had no upper lip, she died before I had the change to treat her again. the mouth area looks like it has grey coloring or outline.

There is nothing to see except that his top lip has receeded on one side!!

Sorry to hear that you lost Molly!!!

He is still lively and eating, he just looks very odd!!! Poor thing. I hope he will be ok. Day 6 of treatment today. I can't get a pic of it, he moves too fast!!!
