| Allie...This is great you posted the photos of the worms...I was going to ask you but didn't know if it was right to ask...It's good education for others who may experience this one day......
I'm glad the boys are doing well through their treatment..You and the boys are in my thoughts right now..Remember, think positive thoughts and you'll get through this.... |

I will be typing it all up in a thread and soon as the first part of the treatment is done. We are treating them all again if the worms don't disappear in 7 days.
I want everyone to learn from my experience.
Since everyone seems no worse for ware at this point, I'd say things are going well. Thanks for your positive vibes. |

I/We need to learn how to handle situations like this for the future. We are opening a store/breedery in the next 5 yrs hopefully and I would hate to not know about this at that point. You learn new things, good and bad in fish keeping but all comes with experience.
I have to start learning to be less attached to the fish too. I get so upset when things like this happen. Especially my betta kids.
So what better way than to vent, right it out in a journal. |

| Aww Allie,I second what Shawnie and Martinismommy said,Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us,I don't know if I could be that strong.I have been thinking about what your going through everyday.
It's so hard to not get attached to our finned friends, especially our Betta's with such personality's.I hope this treatment works for you and your finned friends.
Best wishes |

| Allie, you're such a good betta mom, I have no doubt you'll pull your babies through this.
I do have 1 question though. Am I missing something in the picture that distinguishes Camallanus worms from the female gravid spot? I can kind of detect something different in the first pic, but not sure.
Thanks, |

Thanks, | Thanks. I am trying to get better pix, but the betta buggers don't sit still long enough. (Good sign I guess) Since they are a male fish they shouldn't have white hanging from their bums at all. |

| The darn worms move in and out to..if the fish moves a lot the worms retract and only really hang out when the fish is quiet...or at least that is how it was with my guppy. Just so you know what you are looking for here is a pic of my guppy when he had the worms. The red thread thingy is the camallanus worm hanging out of the guppy. |

| Thanks for posting the pic.
Even though I absolutly hate that the fish are going through this, is such a learning tool for us all. |

| Me too, but I am glad we are dealing with this now. Not years from now when we have a full breedery of fish.
It's a major learning experience for me.
Felix's bum is looking a lot better today, no worms hanging. My male black ghost VT angelfish expelled a really odd, long poo string today and his belly looks thinner.
The only fish showing signs of worms are the betta, angels and the keyholes. Everyone else from plecos, to the african cichlids are fine. My blue hap male expelled a big poo string too. He is alone in a 10g hospital tank, he has been there for weeks. Showing lots of signs of improvement but I think his swim bladder is permenantly damaged. Whe he is sleeping, he violently falailes around splashing. Scary sight.
Treatment seems to be working now, but from what I have been reading...the treatment could go on for months depending on how bad the infestation. OMG!! This is nerve wracking. |

| Good luck with all of the fish Allie...sounds like you are doing all you can and it is just up to the fish and the meds now. What med did you end up using? Is it easily available ? Is it easy to use? Just wondering in case I have this problem again ...altho I did have good results with the Medicated food ...seems not everybody does. I wonder if that is because there are different strains of the worm out there? I had these worms in my guppies 25 years ago and as there was no internet then I never really knew what they were. I lost most of my fish to it then , but only had a few guppies then . I did know it was a worm but not how to treat it or even what it was called. |

| Good questions sqrlyshrly.
Allie, in your other thread (I think you have another about this?)
Rose suggested a thread dedicated to just your observations and treatments with no comment from the peanut gallery (us lol)
I think that would be a wonderful idea, should any of us encounter this horrible illness. |

| I am obsessed with this subject. I am not letting any of this fish just die not when I know I can do something about it...even I have to starve buying meds for the fish, lol. |

Yeah I am writing a journal of my experience and taking lots of notes...but especially with the Betta. Who don`t handle this parasite as long as the other fish obviously. I am posting it as soon as I get the gumption to type it up. It`s hand written right now. |
