Finally Bubble Builders

I was having a big snail(pond)Problem in my (2) 10 gallon divided tanks,I tried everything suggested and they just kept coming back So I re did both tanks completely I moved them back into the computer room (I missed having someone in here with me)changed the gravel to clear marbles scrubbed the plants to no end rinsed the filter and media and started fresh,The thing is..My boys have NEVER built a bubble nest in these tanks EVER,so i opted to leave out the air stones (they needed to be replaced anyway)for now...and lo and behold Both Ash and Bishop have made Bubble Nests!!!I'm so excited
Now I know I'm probably going to have a mini cycle and am prepared for frequent water changes and will monitor them closely!!!But what do you think?Could it have been they couldn't build before because of the air stones?
Are the air stones necessary in a divided tank?
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I would assume they couldn't build before because of the surface agitation created by the air stones.

If you only have the two fish in the 10 gal, I wouldn't worry about needing an air stone, especially since you have the filter to help aerate the water.

Congrats on the little guys deciding to do this though -- I wish Hollywood would follow suit! He's currently convinced the reflection on the back of his aquarium is trying to take over, and spending too much time tell him off to worry about bubble nests...

I keep an air stone in my betta's 6.6 gallon... there's also an upgraded water filter (20 gallon BioWheel)... because of the surface movement he's not able to build nests... I never saw this as a problem, I'm more concerned with the water quality than bubble nests (even though it's awfully cute when they make them!)
Is is bad for them / stressful if they can't make nests? He seems so happy... and loves to play in his bubbles...

I also have bio wheel filters........I am pretty sure it is not stressful for them to not make bubbles nests. Mine all like to play in the outflow from the bio wheel, and sadly I have not had a bubble nest builder either. And I agree, it would be sooooo cool. But for now............

Ya, ya that's it, my guys are of superior intellect and know it would be a time waster............since there is only 1 girl, and she wants nothing to do with any of them...........(smart girl too). LOL

Yep, when we added air stones to our divided, i told rick, this will never do, cuz they won't be able to build bubble nests. so we replaced that side with the tiny little Elite filter that has an adjustable flow and they can still build their nests.

i LOVE seeing them blow their little bubbles.
