Yesterday I was visiting a local Petco. The Bettas I saw there were in absolutely terrible conditions: 2 of them were dead (nobody even cared to take them away), 7-10 had fin rot, a few more looked half-dead. All of them are kept in dirty water, their cups are only half full, some of the cups are put on top of each other, poor fish don't even have a chance to get air. I always get really emotional at this store. I noticed a very tiny girl there. I have never seen a
betta as small as this one. She was stressed (no color), did not look happy. I just couldn't let her stay in that terrible store a minute longer. She is in a 1 Gal bowl right now. She is so small that you can barely see her in the bowl. I got a 3 Gal Eclipse for her but I am afraid she will get lost there!
I talk with the Petco manager about the way they treat their fish. I think it was useless. She tried to read me a lecture about Bettas being happy in small puddles. She said that they change water every other day, feed Bettas all kind of food (different pellets, bloodworms, etc.). I don't believe her. She also said that I was the only person (!!!) who complained about her fish. She is not going to change anything in the store. My comments and suggestions didn't do a thing. It is so, so sad...
But at least I got a new fish!
