It all started with one, and now I have 4.

I have 4 bettas now. I got my first one, Bemis about two weeks ago.

Bemis: White with red spots...off white, kind of. Named for my workplace.

Briuser: Rescued from Wal Mart. They were going to flush him. Red, blue, black, and purple. Named for his color and horrid appearance when i got him. He has horrible fin rot, and really dull color. Im using a little minced garlic, vita chem, and fish protectant to get him looking good.

General: Blue and I think a pinkish color. Named by the kid I babysit.

Flynn: orange with half orange and half clear fins. Named after guy at work who was hurt in a motorcycle crash.

Please tell me what you think of my guys.

Bruiser looks like my Billy Voltaire! They should really all be in filtered, heated tanks...Do you have plans to move them?

Handsome boys...What are their living arrangements? Do they have a filter? Bettas don't do well in bowls with no filtration.....Are you treating the one boy for his finrot?

Im planning to move them all

I just need some time and cash first. Briuser has been getting his fin rot treated with garlic and a fungus killer. I had Bemis in a 10 gallon, but i took him out as soon as i saw him get stuck to the filter, and not get himself free. He, is in a 1 gallon water jug with my dad's minnow filter until i can afford to get tanks for all 4 of them. General and Flynn both have bowls, and get a 100% water change every other day. They would all have thier own tanks if gas wasnt $4.00 a gallon.

They are very nice boys and I do realize that it does take money to get them set up but they do need to be in heated and filtered environments. And the little guy with finrot will need to be getting special attention but for right now if you keep your house at 80 degrees to 82 degrees the temperature of the room will keep the water the right temperature for them. And the filter part can be handled for a SHORT time by doing 50% water changes on them every day to keep the toxic water from building up on them. They look like they are in very small containers and it will not take long for those sized conteiners to fill with ammonia and nitrites and soon poison them. This is the number one cause of death in bettas. Next they need good food but not too much of it. The second most frequent cause of death in bettas is constipation due to being overfed or slowed metabolism due to cold water conditions. So they need to have the right foods and the right amounts. No more than a couple pellets a meal for 2 meals a day each and make sure they chew the first one up before they get the second one. Or if you choose to feed them bloodworms, then they get no more than 3 bloodworms per fish two times a day. These look like adult fish so they get fed like adults. If they were less than 6 months old they would get small meals 3 times a day but these fish look to be at least 2" long without their fins.

You may want to read the Welcome and betta Care Guide if you have not already done so. It will give you tips to get you started on your career as a betta mommy.

Congratulations and thanks for your kindness to these little ones.

I know how you feel, bettas are addicting. Have you thought about getting two 10 gallon tanks & dividing them? It may be a cheaper way to go. And the bettas will have a lot of swimming room. Good luck!

My guys environment

They are kept warm, in my room. Room temp is like 83, but humidity makes it feel like 120. (awful for me, good for fish.) Dont worry about them, I read every piece of betta care litterature I could find, and the bowls are only temporary. They get 100% water changed every other day, 50% everyday. They are all pretty active, except for General. Hes camera shy, and he hasnt got used to me yet. Bemis and Flynn can see each other, and they flare alot. Im not really sure if i should move one of them so they dont get stressed. Can anybody help me with this?

They're very handsome boys! I'm glad you're going to get them bigger, filtered homes soon.

I'd move the boys that are flaring at each other away so that they calm down a little. Flaring a little is ok, but flaring too much makes them stressed.

I would not do 100% water changes as this will have them stressed. 50% a day is adequate and will allow them to remain in the container they are in and not be moved about and let them stay quiet and undisturbed if you just gently pour in the new treated water. So please just change 50% every day and have that be enough. The other thing is the betta with finrot needs to be getting some treatment in his water. The best would be Vitachem vitamins, Fish Protector and Garlic Guard but until you can get some money for them the next best would be a little garlic juice from a jar of minced garlic from the grocery store.... The kind where the garlic is chopped up in its own juice. They can tell you where it is kept if you cannot find it. Just put about 3 or 4 drops in his water or on his food 3 times a week. If you put it on his food let the food soak it up so he is eating it.

Welcome to Fishlore. Love those handsome Bettas! When you can, I'd recommend getting Prime for water conditioner. It takes 1-2 drops per gallon to treat the water and really is especially helpful when they're in uncycled homes.
