| Oh, I hope you lose no more of your fin-babies Rose. It's good to know all the betta are relatively safe, I was getting worried about them. |

| Please keep us up to date. Hoping the fishies suffer no further effects. Also very annoyed that they're not giving you any specifics at what's going on. |

| I think this a fitting story:
Yesterday I went to the LFS to buy some Odessa Barbs for my tank. I said to the guy, "I'll see you in a couple of weeks, since I need to stock slowly." I further said "I the aquarium hobby patience seems to be the most important thing, and I hate being patient"
He replied "Yeah, the only thing that happens fast when it comes to aquariums is tragedy"
Hope things are getting under control. |

| Rose - I am so sorry you lost your fish and that you have to go through all of this. I hope things get better for you... and fast!
For everyone else - I did find this article saying that the boil order is lifted for some of the town, but not all. http://www.beatricedailysun.com/arti...1538702234.txt |

| I called our Board of Public Works today and asked when we could expect to have drinking water and they said part of town does have already. I said that is nice, am I in that part? They asked where I live and when I told them they informed me that my area was part of the hardest hit area and would not be back in service for at least 2 more days, so at least I know that they are getting there but not yet.
I agree there is not a plan and there needs to be one. We recently got a new City Planner and I nearly had a fit when I heard what his salary was per year (well over $100,000./year) and now we have had in the last couple of months the whole town out of natural gas and everyone having to have their furnaces and hotwater heaters relit manually and taking days to cover the town to do it and now this. We have a large river that runs right through our town and we are an agricultural community and have had massive rains lately. So if the river water got into our water system all the runoff from all the fields and chemicals from all the factories and fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and all the other "cides" that are in that water could easily be in our water. It is not any wonder that it is not fit for human consumption. They already say that the fish in that river are not to be eaten. I know of people who fish for them and do use them for food but not anyone who is not pretty desperate for food. Most people who fish around here fish farm ponds.

| I did want to let everyone know that we found out a couple hours ago that now all the city is cleared and the water is safe for all of us to use. I ran the water here for about 30 minutes and did partial water changes in all my tanks but due to a previous appointment that I have for a health appointment I cannot do full changes on my tanks tonight. I will be doing them in the morning though as all my bettas now have finrot due to the lack of their regular tank maintenance I am sure. They are very touchy little darlings and Marty (who was sick before) seems to be the best off now. Diablo who was my pride and joy is now missing a lot of his caudal fin and is going to be the hardest to treat. Ariel whose fins have never been very long has now almost nothing for a caudal fin and Qwin is so far just missing some tips. It is going to be a long morning and I wish I could do more for them tonight but this is not to be but they each got a partial and that will have to do for the evening.
I want to thank you all for your patience with me and I promise to get back to work after my doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon.

| Hi Rose,
I have not been on the forum for about a week and I just caught up on what has been going on with you. I am so sorry about the loss of your fish I am so glad to hear that your bettas survived even though they now have fin rot- poor things! I am so sorry that you had to deal with such a frustrating fiasco. Hopefully in the future your city will be better prepaired to handle disasters like this one. I wish you and your fishies the best of luck in their recovery and hope to hear that they are doing better soon. Thanks for the update, and I am very glad that you guys have your water back now! |

| Marty is actually eating well and swimming like normal and doing very well. He hated me turning on his light this morning and gave me this "darn it mommy" look when I did. So he is better. Diablo is not feeling bad but he is looking raggedy. He still eats and swims well and looks normal otherwise. Qwin is back to normal his tips look good today. Ariel is getting lymphocystitis I think he has lumps all over at the base of his caudal fin. They were not there before but I do not know what to do about it now as there is no cure for it. He does not seem disturbed by it and the other fish are all doing just like normal. None of them seem sicker but not better either.
I am getting a threat from my doctor however that if I do not get some better test results he is going to slow me down whether I like it or not. So I will be posting and trying to settle down and take it easy. But I will be here.

Rose | Get Betta soon Ariel! It's great to know all the Betta are intact and alive. I really wish I could post you some nice water... |

| I am going to be here as I feel that this is where am most comfortable but thank you all for caring. The fish are doing okay. Ariel is not doing any better but I think the lymphocystitis is going to progress one way or another. I am amazed that the stuff could come on so quickly.
Qwin is almost his old self again totally. His tips are back and he is hardly even affected.
Diablo is a little dickens but the white is still gone from his caudal fin at the top the bottom does seem to be coming back however. They seem to be healing fast the little stinkers. I guess I must do something right.
Marty will still only eat one time a day but he eats lots of Freeze-dried Daphnia then so I am not worried. He swims when he feels like it so he is getting about okay. I am going to change some more water this afternoon but I promised Mom I would have noon lunch with her and then rest a while but we are doing much better since the water is back.
Thank you all for being so patient with me and thank you to the other mods for taking up my part of the load. I was a wreck and did not have my wits about me at all. I would probably have given very poor advice.

| Hi Rose, I haven't been on here. Ever since I started this new job I don't have much time for anything. I just read this whole thread and I am so sorry that this happened. We had something very similar happen to us here a few yrs back and we have well water, so thats worse. We had to boil our water too for about a week.
I'm sorry you lost your fish and I hope that all the rest make it through w/o any more new problems. I'm sure you can pull them all through.
First and foremost though,Rose, you NEED to take care of yourself. I know your fish mean the world to you, but w/o your well being they can't survive. They need you in their lives. So please listen to your doctor when he tells you to take it easy. It's very important that you do. We all care very much about you here and we don't want to hear that something has happened to you.
