| Im Getting A Betta!!!!! Maybe this summer, maybe as an add-on to the new tank!!! But For Sure, I will get a betta!!!! So anything I should do to pick out the betta? Care requires at least a five gallon tank so I've heard. But yeah, I know care, just how do I know the perfect betta? Or will he know me? |

| I have a Betta and 2 Peppered Cory's in a 10 and it works out great, I know I should have more Cory's, but this seems to be working okay. No agression at all. Poe didn't seem too happy at first, but now he's fine |

| Sorry but cories demand a 10 gallon tank minimum. NO 5 gallons for cories. They simply get too big. Even the pygmy cories do not work in 5 gallons as they simply need bigger numbers. Pygmy cories need to be kept in groups of 6 or more to be comfortable. They are nervous little creatures and the betta will simply have them intimidated with small numbers of them.
You need to know that the experience of one betta owner does not mean much with respect to keeping fish with YOUR betta. Every single betta is different. They each have their own personality and their own wants and wishes. Some will tolerate the other fish just fine and do well, some will carp for a while and then settle down and some will not absolutely never accept another living thing in the same tank with them never never never. You will not know until you get your betta and see. Mr or Ms. Betta will be the one to decide what they will and will not allow. I LOVE bettas and I adore the litte quirks in their personalities and I put up with them running my home and being the bosses because when you become a betta parent, that is what happens. They become the boss. They tell you what they will eat, they tell you what they will put up with in their tanks, they tell you when they want to go to bed, they want to play, they want to swim and they want to be paid attention to. If they do not get their way you will pay. It may be in pouting or not eating or getting sick or some other equally unpleasant betta behavior but they let their displeasure be known. But it is worth it all of it. Because when they love you and they are getting their way they can make your heart melt and the look in their eyes is like the best thing in the world. When they make you feel like they need you and they love you they really do. They are the one fish that I know of who need you and show it. They need your attention and they need you to talk to them and pay attention to them and they suffer without it. They do not want pets or they do not want to play with other fish, they want you to do the playing with them. They will ignore the others at best and fight with them at worst. Don't mistake it the other fish are not for the company of the betta, they are for you. The betta will not only not like them he will not like you for putting them there, but he will either decide he can handle it or he will get rid of them.

| A word of caution about ghost shrimp in with your betta if he is like the one I chose to put the ghost shrimp in with he thought they were on the menu. He waited until they molted then ate them. |

| Yes that does happen as the little ones are given shrimp as their first food. So they naturally think that shrimp is on the menu when one is present. It is safe when it is "in the shell" but when the shell is shed and until the new one is grown on the shrimp is very vulnerable and probably dinner.
