Changing colors?

I have a beautiful blue betta that I love. The problem is that i always come home at around midnight and hes fast asleep. When I click the lights on and look at him his whole face which is usually a deep black becomes very light and almost see through. Then in the morning when I wake up hes back to his usual coloring. Anyone experienced this before?

He's shocked by the sudden light. It's best to turn on room lights or a lamp, etc. and let them have a little time to adjust before turning on tank lights.

I don't turn on the tank light at night. Only my room light. Heck I wouldn't even turn that on if it would help but its kinda the only source of light I have in my room.

It is a kind of camoflauge that they do at night. And it is normal do not be concerned. I have heard that dark colored fish do this when they are in the dark and have not seen it often but have seen it happen a couple to times with reds. As long as they color up again right away in the morning there is nothing wrong with them.

Maybe a small lamp or something like that to provide less light than the room light would help too.. or even waking him with the light of a cel phone or iPod maybe? Just some thoughts, but if Rose says he's good then no worries.
