We Think He's Dying! Please Advise!

My friend brought over one of her betta's in hopes I could diagnose, but we are both stumped. I have pictures of the little fells but he's getting worse by the hour. I think we're gonna lose him.

She has made a post on the Ultimate Betta forum, and I'm checking here for as many responces as I can get as quickly as I can get them. Please help her.. He's paled even more so over the last hour than you see in the pictures below.

Hers the pictures

Picture 1 shows him heavily discolored and listless

Picture 2 you can see the almost transparent fuzzy blob just to the left of his borsal fin, hanging off his body. Also, the greyish right side shows more of the "fuzzy" grey line along his body, just blurry.

Picture 3 shows him having issues, and tilting to his side as he swims, again, very very pale.

As I know the best advice is to keep his water clean and warm (a heater is necessary). Use a good water conditioner like Prime (Petco, Petsmart), try to add Vita-chem (if you can find it) and Stress Coat (Petco, Petsmart, Walmart) to his water. I don't know anything about medication but I'm sure other people will be able to help you. Good luck.

Hi Wolfy
Im so sorry to hear your friends Betta is not doing good. Im not sure what I can advice as we really do not know anything about him. Has his water been changed regularly? Has he been in a cycled tank? Is he eating? Any fuzzy white that you see on his body can be a parasite or even a bacteria?
I would make sure he is in clean water and maybe try feeding him a pea, in case he is constipated and may be why he is swimming funny?
I wish I could help more.. hopefully others will be by to give you and your freind a hand and I wish the best for the lil guy!

im so sorry about your friends betta, the poor little guy.
I had a betta who suffered with that same thing once, and i thought it was a parasite or fungus.
I'm sorry i cant be of much help, i just hope the little one is okay.
I lost my betta Buddie from that, and i hope the best for your friend and her betta.
Let us know if he gets better/worse.

You could ask COBetta, they would probably know something.

as most have said, sorry for his sickness..and hopefully some of the suggestions are helpful...I just want to add, he should be in a heated tank 78-80 ish and a filtered cycled tank also.....daily water changes with some garlic guard, fish protector, and some vita chem should bounce him back in no time ..keep us posted

Ok i'm in the Uk. Meds are different here. I would get a broad spectrum med until you know what you are dealing with! In a case like this i would do a 70% water change and add Seachem Paraguard. Also vitamin and even gualic guard. pea meals and bloodworms. I know daphnia are good but my boys here won't eat it!!! Keep the water warm and fresh with plenty of air flowing through it!

Good luck. You are trying to help him, what more can we do!!!!!

It does look like either fungal infection or an external parasite. Parasite Clear would be the first drug to try but if she is in an unheated and uncycled tank it may not work as well.

Thank you all, for the responces and kind words.

We did all we could, unfortunately, he didn't last through the night

Evidently his condition became so bad, so quickly he just couldn't pull out of it. Some times you can't save them all, even when we try everything in our power.. even when we have help..

Within an hour of the shots taken above, he became twice as pale. I kinda figured he wouldn't make it, but we still tried our hardest. Can never give up hope, because sometimes it works out.

So, thank you all, for your well wishes, your sympathy and understanding, and your help.

*hugs*

I'm SO sorry to hear about the boy.
It's always hard losing a betta, their such amazing fish.

You guys did all you could do, and at least he past away with people who loved him aside from in a tiny dirty petstore cup.

I'm so sorry about your loss.

From the looks of the pictures, it could have been Columnaris. That disease can strike rather quickly, unfortunately.

I'm sorry you lost him! Thanks for trying and looking at him, I'd find it hard to make a certain diagnosis.
