Fin Rot? Male Betta

Hello again,
I just noticed that my male betta has black on his tail. Is this fin rot?
Here is a pic. of him.

It doesn't look like fin rot to me.... look just like his coloring! Fin rot is usually white.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know fin rot is usually white, but there are pieces of his fins missing.

I took a closer look at this picture...

Is it really black on the tail or is it red? If it's red it could be sore or blood...

It's possible that it's not fin rot and that he snagged it on something. But I don't know now... Hopefully someone else responds!

It is black, I am not sure what happened. He has a couple of spots were it is black and fraying. It almost looks like he got burned! But I don't know how that would happen.
I put Rid Fungus in the tank anyway!

It looks like the beginnings of a fungal infection of the fins. He will need something like Rid Fungus and some Vitachem and Garlic in his diet.

Yea, Rose has that one right on. I'd recommend having some Triple Sulfa stocked, just in case you need it, but hopefully it's just the fungal fin rot.

awe, poor guy, the only thing I have to add is to do a lot of water changes. I am dealing with the same problem. Flash is still looking a little like raggedy andy, but he is getting better.

That's great to hear! I love the Rid-Fungus, it might not smell like perfume but it's great treatment and non-stressful for our little fish.

One more thing! Should I keep treating him with Rid-Fungus? How long should I treat him for?
He is looking way better, but not perfect yet.

Due to it being a safe, organic, herbal solution I would keep using it as long as you feel it's needed.

OH No! this time he has stopped eating. His gills seem to be pumping more also. Should I try a different med.?

He may need a 50% water change, followed by starting him on triple sulfa in addition to the rid fungus.

What's in the tank now for aeration? Any other information about the current tank conditions and/or a pic of him could help. He may have a secondary infection (treated by triple sulfa).

I tested the water yesterday, everything is fine, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 10 nitrates, but the pH is 8.8
He looks the same as in the picture I posted before, other than it looks worse this time.
This happened overnight, the day before I thought he really wasn't acting himself, the next day he looks terrible.
So using Triple Sulfa and Rid-Fungus together is ok? I have both.
I will see if I can get a picture of him, but he seems to just lay on the bottom of the tank, I don't see him much.
I hope he is going to be ok, I have had him for a while.

The only other thing that is going on in this tank is there is a major snail outbreak! They must be from the plants, I have been picking them out, but there is so many.

Could he be eating some of the snails?

He could be eating the snails, but I haven't seen him eat them.
I started with the Triple Sulfa. He did eat a couple of bloodworms this evening. He is really not looking good.

Do you have tap water or city water? the reason I ask is when I almost lost my rafikki, I used a spare breeder tank, just 1.5 gallons, and using vita chem, garlic guard, and prime, perked him right up and got him into a fresh clean tank even tho it wasnt cycled, because it was well water with no chlorine or clorimydes (spelling), he did better and the meds came to him quickly because the tank was so small...daily water changes are the key as well as the normal meds I mentioned ....I hope he does better and makes it through this
