Such a sad waste!RIP lil Red!

I went to buy Fishtamin before and saw a BEAUTIFUL red betta in a tank, dying with a load of guppies, some dead and rotting.

I went to the counter and very loudly said 'i'd like a bottle of vitamins please oh and i'll buy that red fighter that is dying'

I was quickly taken to the tanks to shut me up, the owner was VERY embarrased to see the rotting fish and said ' oh i had no idea he was ill, i don't think he'll live' I said 'i doubt it but i'd rather he died in my care and at least try to save him than just to walk away'

Well he gave me him for free and i sat in the car talking to him in the bag, told him i wasn't gonna give up on him, to try to hang on in there until we got home. OK may sound odd but i put the bag under my top next to my skin to try to give him warmth straight away.

By the time i got ome 5 mins later he had died.

I'm sad but glad he died next to the heart of someone that cares and not in a tank of rotting fish alone!! You should see him, he has no fin rot at all and part blue eyes, a pure red stunner BUT covered in sooooo much fungus!

Such a waste of a truly beautiful little life!!

I can only hope i shamed this guy today as normally his fish are well looked after.

I'm off to bury ' Little Red' now in my fishy grave yard. I tried for him!!

What a loving and heart wrenching thing you did.

What a cruel way to keep fish, that man ought to be ashamed of himself.

At least when he passed he was with a loving betta mommy. Poor little guy.

Michelle, your post gave me goose bumps...poor little mite. My kind friend...you are so sweet.

I have such a heavy heart with all of the sick and dying fish over the past weeks.

Thanks for making the world a better place, my friend.

Poor Red! At least he was in the hands of a loving, caring person before he passed on. Unfortunately, some fish don't even get to experience that.

I just wish there were more people like you. This world need more people like that.

Michelle,

What a selfless and difficult thing you did. The story is one of the saddest and at the same time sweetest stories I've ever read.

Thanks for making his last time here loving. I'd like to take that shop owner and teach him a few things about betta care.

I have to say i am overwhelmed with the responses to this thread. Ty everyone, Amnagrla, putting the bag down my top bit had my mates laughing at me! I just knew he needed warmth and it came to me. I was just worried about being stopped by police for anything!!

I don't feel i did anything big, i just tried. Infact i have been kicking myself that i didn't go for the Vitamins the day before!!!

Stop kicking yourself, you did what you could with the situation you were presented with. As someone who has never rescued a betta I am so ashamed to say that I do not know if I would have had the forethought to do the same. I am sure wherever he is Red is looking down on you with love in his heart.

Oh thank you Rose. I am sure you would do something similar too. It's just instinct!

I have always been able to read animals, they somehow tell me stuff, like it hurts here but to the outside world they look great. I guess he just said 'help me to move on'

I don't like to dwell on it as my dog Taz ( hence my name) let me sense one day whilst playing he'd be leaving me soon. I thought it was my imagination as he was full of life, he did take ill with cancer everywhere in him soon after. There is more to this tale but i don't want to cry so i'll stop.

When people say i went to buy shampoo and came home with 'Fred' the betta i believe it is our instinct calling. The buying of shampoo is just the mind making a reason that doesn't seem nuts to answer our inner voice!

OK do i seem really crazy now!?!?! or just a little more thasn before?!! lol
