Newbie betta fish owner w/pics

Hello all! I just found this forum on the internet and was enjoying reading so much that I thought I would post something myself.

I bought a betta fish (that I named Jesse) about a year ago that recently passed away a couple months ago. I was SO sad!! I don't know what happened or anything. I woke up one morning and he was dead.

I loved him so much and had so much fun with him that I HAD to go buy another one. When I got to the pet store I saw the Crown Tail Bettas which I had never seen before. I thought they were so beautiful! I couldn't decide on just one so I bought TWO!! :-) They are both Crown Tail but are still so different when all their fins are fanned out. They are such characters too. I think I will own betta fish for the rest of my life. I couldn't even imagine my life without them. I have put pictures of them below.

Beautiful! Sorry to hear about the one you lost. Bettas don't live very long unfortunately so he may just have died of old age.

Rasputin looks just like my Noel and the others are beautiful. I am so sorry to hear about Jesse. We mourn the loss of all Bettas here with the owners. It is hard to lose a pet and especially with a pet that gets to be such a member of the family.

Welcome to Fishlore.com and we are so glad you are enjoying your time with us. We hope you are enjoying our new Betta Section and will continue to return with comments as well as pictures. There are many of our members who own Bettas and the number continues to raise every day or so we understand. You are welcome to hear our stories and add those of your own and pick the brains of those who may have had experience you may need help with.

Congratulations on owning two very beautiful babies!

Re: Newbie betta fish owner w/pics

Thank you so much! I wish I could have a TON of them but I just don't have the space! :-) I've often wondered if I could put other fish in with them but I think the tanks are too small for them to have companions. Also, if they've "lived" alone for awhile is it a good idea to add companions? I know they are territorial.

Re: Newbie betta fish owner w/pics

They can be happy on their own as they are indeed used to being without other fiish, but that means you will have to spend much more time with them or they will suffer from depression. They need some stimulation and that means inteaction with someone or something. Since other fish are not the interaction that they crave, guess what? that leaves their humans. Sing, talk, read to them, if you have a TV where they can see it turn it on and let them watch. Turn on the stereo (not heavy metal or anything extremely wild) and let them listen. Give them all the love and attention you can, You have 2 "child fish" now who need to be molded and taught how to live and be happy. Otherwise they will be unhappy and mopey and eventually it wiill affect their health. Besides it is really fun to get to know them and help shape their personalities and to enjoy them after they are formed. They get so excited to see you and it isn't just for food. I love it and I think I have heard several other Betta owner say so too.
