| Brought home another kinda homely little guy! Yesterday being one of the worst days I've ever had (my purse was stolen out of my van), I decided to cheer myself up by rescuing this funny little fella from Smell-Mart this afternoon.
He's been there at least two weeks. I know this because he was the one I was originally going to get before Pongo flashed his baby-blues at me. I was there this afternoon doing some other shopping and I decided I was going to go see if he was still there and if he was, he was coming home with me.
Not sure what I'm going to name him yet. I'm thinking either "Bandit" or "Poseidon" and calling him "Posey" for short. Kinda leaning towards Posey just 'cause its kinda odd and my boys all groaned at the thought of a boy- betta being called Posey. But Pongo and Posey kinda sound good together, I think! |

| You might have a pleasant surprise when he settles in. I came home with what I thought was a creamy peach guy but he colored up to a rich chocolate brown with just a hint of blue. He is a happy healthy 3 year old now. I don't name my fish, that is the only way I know I am not a true betta addict. |

| What a cutie pie!
He looks a little stressed. Once he settles in, you get to see how pretty his colors will be. |

| Hi Bede
very unusual color pattern in your betta. Which makes him a very handsome boy!
Congrats on your new lil guy! |

I think it is fun to bring these little mites that look all worn out home, and watch them blossom into the beautiful boys/girls they were to begin with. Great rescue. Keep us posted as to his progress.
Sorry about your purse, that sucks.

Bede, I hope you take pictures as he progresses.
Is he going in the 10g you made your son go buy, while you peeked through the curtains? Last edited by Lucy; May 11th, 2008 at 12:28 AM.

I can't wait to see pictures of him once he starts to blossom in your care! He'll be beautiful, and probably one of the most grateful little fishies we know and love.
I totally sympathize about the loss of your purse. How horrible. I had a wallet stolen from a purse one time in Chicago on a business trip. I was fully aware of the theft at the moment the lowlife took it out of my purse, and I wasn't being careless with the way I was carrying the purse. There were two thieves working together, and there was absolutely nothing I could do to overpower the scuzzballs although I was fully aware of the incident the moment it occurred.
Just the loss of the wallet presented a huge, huge hassle -- credit cards, driver license, insurance cards, return plane ticket, etc. etc. It was difficult flying to get back home, and turned into a vicious cycle trying to get things restored after my return. "We'll need your driver license to ... " "But I don't have a driver license because, as I mentioned, my wallet was stolen." "How about your Social Security card?" That was in my wallet, too. On and on and on ... Fortunately, a friend at the convention had loaned me some cash and I got home. It was awful, and would probably be not impossible, but nearly so, given today's security in airports. This was 15 years ago.
The bottom line is that it is very, very difficult and one of the most personal violations of a lady's space to get her purse stolen. In hindsight, I was lucky. No identity theft. But that was back then. I still have recurring nightmares about losing my purse or it getting stolen.
Enjoy your new Posey (or whatever name sticks), and I hope your purse-theft incident is resolved relatively easily and doesn't lead to identity theft. |

| He won't necessarily fill out in colors. I got one that I thought was going to fill out, and he's still got white patches all over. However, the mix of white, blue, and purple, is really awesome. |

| *UpDate* He made it through the night. I think he's going to be ok. I was quite worried about him yesterday, he was really lethargic and weak. I think he was just stressed to the max and really hungry. After he ate some nice juicy garlic/vitachem soaked bloodworms, he perked up.
He spits out the Daphnia, even garlic soaked. Looooves bloodworms and wasn't too sure about the peas this morning (Sunday is PeaDay around here), he just looked at it when I dropped it in, but his hunger got the best of him and he ended up gobbling them down like candy.
His color has really changed. He was black and white with what looked like iridescent green. Today his body is still white (its pinked up alot) with black but his fins are this crazy purple/red with bright aqua stripes. He's still got those beautiful black eyes.
I ended up dividing the 10 gallon that Pongo is in. He (Pongo) was alittle miffed at me about it yesterday but he's back to his goofy, loveable self today, so all is well. The personality differences between the two of them is something else. I've only had Splendas, Posey is my first Crowntail.
Update to my update- Awwwwww! I just checked in on them and Posey is blowing a bubble nest!!!! I think my heart just melted (again!) Last edited by Bede; May 11th, 2008 at 10:39 PM.
