| What's worse? Is a uncycled, unheated, but filtered 10 gallon better for betta than a cup at PetSmart? I saw some today, and I'm getting a 10 Gallon tommorow, and I was just wondering? I do have some gravel I could put in to help "jump start" the cycle, but I was just curious to what everyone thought? I'd get a heater ASAP, and I know an uncycled tank is really stressful for fish, but is it really worse than a bowl where it has to lay on its side to have water? Thanks,
Cory |

| well the gravel would definitely speed up the cycle, and if the fish has to lye down for water, then I would go ahead and save it. Be sure to do atleast 30% water change everyday though to keep the fish alive. |

| I saw that Dr. Fosters is having a sale on Marineland Stealth Heaters- a lot cheaper than what i paid at Petco (if you are considering buying one). Other than that, I better not give you advice as I am a total newbie! |

| A tank is better and would give him more room to move, but toxin exposure is toxin exposure and either way he is at risk of toxin damage.
Daily water changes really helps lower than, as does aeration and if you can get ahold of some, Prime or Amquel+. The gravel will help too and definitely shorten the cycling time some. So he would be better of in the tank, with you taking care of his water conditions. |

| Sorry, thinking faster than I could type :P An Azoo Palm Filter, and a Visi-Therm Stealth (total is about $24), which I thought was resonable, but with shipping being almost 6x as much, I guess I'll be supporting PetSmart |

| I was curious because about 1-1/2 yr ago I bought $500 worth of stuff and shipping was only $49. So it's costing that much because it's being shipped to Canada right?
Oh yeah I think ahead of my fingers when typing all the time LOL

carol | Yeah, that must be it. But I still think that it's outrageous I've bought bike frames from the States off eBay, and they've cost, at most $50 to ship Too bad, I was going to place a big (for a broke college student) order. Guess I'm going to have to go to PetSmart and fork out the $45 for a Stealth |

| Oh, sorry to hear shipping is so expensive-hopefully you can find a reasonably priced heater up in Canada. I've only had my Marineland Visitherm stealth for a week, but so far the temp has not fluctuated more than 1 degree (if that). I hope my betta is enjoying the cozy 80 temp.! Good luck. |

| Well, I have a Stealth in Poe's tank, and it's a great heater, it's just that dropping over $40 for a heater (like a week of meals), seems really expensive to me |

| Hey Cory,
Try to order from this site in Canada. I just talked to their representative and she told me that when your order is $35.01 or more in Canada you pay only for the items and NO SHIPPING. That would help. I know the items cost a bit more but with no shipping charges to you in Canada, it should make it easier to get what you need. I have ordered from them before and their merchandise is just what you would get from DFS in the US.
