Live Food

Does anyone feed their Betta live food such as Brine Shrimp? My Betta will only eat freeze dried bloodworms and I am worried that he isn't getting all his nutrients/vitamins. I have tried Betta flake food and pellets and he either won't eat them or spit them out.

I used to hatch my own brine shrimp when I had a saltwater aquarium. The fish loved them and I'm almost sure my betta girl would love them, too! Does anybody know if this is safe, or could it introduce nasties? I would make sure they're eaten, but the concern is about the possibility of bacteria and parasites.

I'm pretty sure I would have researched them and found them to be safe at the time, but that was a long time ago. I definitely wouldn't buy live brine shrimp from a store.

We've fed ours baby brine shrimp. What you could get for your betta is Hikari frozen bloodworms.

Baby Brine Shrimp or any shrimp can be a good variety food but it is rich and not for a full time food. Even on the cans of some of the BBS it states that it should not be fed more than 2 times a week. It is what the fry eat as long as it is live and can wiggle but I do not have any luck at all with feeding it to my little darlings. They are too finicky.
