Azoo Heater Unstable? Your Advice? (Switch to Stealth)

Hi All!

Thanks for your great help with my betta. I will be posting beautiful videos to show you how great he is doing.

When I first got him about 3-4 months ago, I read someone on here say that titanium heaters may be best because they cannot shatter. I bought an Azoo 50 Watt (for my Eclipse 6 gallon tank) and it worked very well for 2-3 months until a week and a half ago where I had to keep "turning up" the knob to get the water to stay at 80 degrees. Finally up to 90 but then it stopped working altogether.

I called Drs. Foster and Smith and they sent me a new one overnight (nice guys). Well this one has to be turned up to 85 to make the water 80 and then, today, the water temp went down to 76!

Are these Azoo Titaniums just bad heaters? Am I doing something wrong? And, should I switch to a Visitherm 50 W stealth heater?(or other brand that's the best) I am going to call Drs Foster and Smith I think, return these two heaters and ask for a 50 Watt stealth. I just wanted your thoughts and advice first. Thanks,
GERRY

Definitely go with the Stealth. It's glass-free, everyone seems to have nothing but positive experience with it (unlike the deluxe or other brands of heaters), and it's on sale!

I have the two heaters that you are speaking of in my tanks and as soon as I can I am getting rid of the Azoo heaters. I liked the feature that allowed setting them outside the tank but it is not worth the hassle of not having them work right. And they do not keep a good temperature. The Visi-therm Stealth heaters are the ONLY ones I will ever recommend again. They keep a constant temperature and I have only had one of them ever quit on me and it was replaced promptly. Be sure to keep the box and receipt as they are lifetime warrantied and you will need it if you need to have a replacement from the manufacturer. I always keep a spare on hand in case something goes wrong with one of them and I would have to send in one for a replacement but so far it is not a real problem. With all the heaters I have running in my tanks it is just not worth the hassle of ever owning any other kind.

Even if you have to purchase them, they are on sale right now and I would urge you to do so. (Visi-therm Stealth 50 watt is $13.69 I believe at DFS)

Chickadee, is a 50W the right size for a 6 gallon Eclipse tank?
Thanks

Also, I should order a Visitherm "Stealth," rather than a "Deluxe," right?

Thank you,
GER

Stealth = GOOD
Deluxe = BAD

I have a 50-watt in my 5g and it's fine - keep in mind that it's the same size and price as the 25-watt, and will convert to a larger tank if/when you ever expand.

A 50w Stealth would be good for that tank.

I use a 50 watt Visi-Therm Stealth in my six-gallon Eclipse and, like others I recommend it.

You can go up to 10 watts per gallon for a heater as I understand it. So a 50 watt would be the preferred heater for a 6 gallon.

I have had the Visi-Therm Deluxe heater in my tank for over a year now with no problems. I do not have it fully submerged but have the very top out of the water. I'd purchase another when the time comes.
