Bettas and dividers, Cruel?

Hello,

I have three male bettas. ( Rowdy, AJAX, and Dozer) Anyway I have Dozer in a breeder so that he can be in my 14 gal community tank with a heater and filter. He really has no problems unless Perry, my Gourami, swims by. But Ajax and Rowdy are in a 5 gal hexagonal tank. AJAX is in the breeder. They are forever puffing themselves up. My question is this. Do they stress that way? Is it cruel? I mean those who have dividers in your tanks, do you have the same problem? Or is it just considered their behavior? Can they die? Or should I just purchase them their own tanks? Mostly the five gal. have heaters. Has anyone purchased a heater for a tank smaller than a 5 gal? if so where? If you don't mind. Thanks

I have purchased this heater in a 25 watt size ......

for this tank ....

BUT this tank is on sale for less and is a 5 gallon instead of 3 gallon like that one....

The heaters are on sale now too. It is a very lucky time..I have never seen them cheaper anywhere.

No I do not think dividers are cruel and they will stop flaring eventually unless you have a very stubborn betta but keeping them in the breeder box is a little cruel as they do not have any room to really swim. This is my opinion. I do not know that it will shorten their lives but I do know that bettas are very prone to constipation and it is aggravated by inactivity. So if they could really get a lot of swimming room and do more swimming they would probably be healthier. Of course you need to keep from overfeeding and all but otherwise, I think a tank for each of them would be wonderful.

It would be best for them both to get into their own tanks of at least 5g. They'll be happier and you'll enjoy a lot more personality from them.
