Swim bladder problem???

Hey all!

My little guy is really sick and I'm not sure what to do for him.

He's having trouble swimming upright, and either lays at the bottom of the tank or floats at the top with his head up and tail down. He hasn't eaten in two days; I've put food in there but he's not interested. He had fluke worms a couple days ago, so I put parasite clear in after changing the water. Does this sund like a swim bladder problem? If so what can I do for him? Thanks!

If he hasn't eaten, he could be constipated. Does he look a little bloated? You could try to feed him some bits of pea and see if that doesn't...get things (including HIM) moving again.

I tried peas yesterday, he won't eat anything. He's worse today...just laying at the bottom of the tank and it looks like he might have fish lice I gave him another dose of parasite clear. I'm open to more suggestions.

Well, what are all of your water parameters - ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and temperature? I don't really know about any fishie ailments, or their treatments, besides nice, clean, warm water.

It really sounds like internal parasites, although there is a chance it's internal bacteria. I'd look for a med called Clout for parasites. For what he's dealing with, that would probably be better than Parasite Clear.

Thanks for you help, but Beethoven passed away last night. After I gave him the second dose of parasite clear it looked like he was doing better, but within hours he was gone. I had him for about a year. He was a sweet little guy. He'd always celebrate every time I came in the door from work or from an errand and loved swimming back and forth in front of me while I talked to him or sang for him. I'm glad I was able to give him a higher quality of life and wish I could have done more for him. Rest in Peace lil' budddy.
