Guess what? I bought a new baby!

A few months ago I could not even imagine that Bettas could be so addictive! Yesterday I got a second betta. It is a tiny girl I found at a local Petsmart. She had such unusual fins (she is a crown tail Betta as I learned later), shy personality and she was so cute that I had to have her. She (still no name) is the smallest fish I have seen. Her body is almost transparent, her fins are tiny. She has some kind of damage on her top fin (you can see in the picture, like a little rip, hope not fin rot) but I do not mind to nourish her to health. She is temporary in an 1 gal bowl where my fist Betta Buddha spent almost a month. The only problem I have with the baby girl she refused to eat yesterday and ate only freeze-dried bloodworms today. Buddha loves Hikari pellets but the baby does not touch them. Any advices for me, my friends?

She's beautiful! She may take a few days to settle in and start to eat well. Maybe the pellets are too big for her just now. Maybe a bit of flake would entice her to take a nibble. remember her tummys only as big as one eye so she may not eat much. Only eating Bloodworms may not be good for her in the future so don't let her train you to only give her BW because thats all she's eating
we start out with a large flake and hold it down in the water and wiggle it around and ours will swim right over and attack it. He gets BW as treats.
good luck! Keep us posted again she'd beautiful.

Hi!

Yeah, it's best to try feed her a bit of variation as Carol said. I think, try keep the bowls temp in the 20's until you can get her a tank. She's a lovely little girl, I can't wait to see her in a nice set-up. There's nothing like good water quality and bloodworm treats to bring out the best in a fish's colour.

She's a little beauty!! Female bettas have awesome personalities.

She looks bloated, so I would advise you to fast her for a couple days, then offer a tiny piece of frozen thawed pea. Feed frozen bloodworms (maybe 2) since bettas are carnivores, and not freeze dried which can swell in their stomachs and cause constipation. Frozen brineshrimp are usually popular as well!

You can teach her to eat pellets by withholding food for a day, soaking the pellets and if necessary, cutting them in half since she looks like a tiny little one.

Hikari frozen bloodworms, thawed and Ocean Nutrition Betta Pro pellets would both be good for her. Vita-Chem and Fish Protector could help the fin damage heal up faster.

Atison's Beta Pro pellets (as Dave mentioned by the brand-name Ocean Nutrition) are a lot smaller than the Hikari pellets, about half the size, so they'd be a good bet for your new baby. Buddha will probably enjoy them too, and they'd be a nice bit of added variety to his diet.

Congrats on the new little girl! Oh, what a sweet and beautiful tiny one!
