Depends. Chances are, any betta you buy will have been mistreated at some point in its life. I get my bettas from stores that keep their bettas in the larger, filtered, heated tanks, so at least the last leg of their journey to their final home was fairly pleasant.
Still, buying from an auction likely means the betta will have spent less time in a little cup/bag, especially if you're buying a young betta. Be sure to check out the seller's rating, though. I wouldn't buy if they have anything less than 95% (and anything less than 99%, I read through the list to see what complaints they've had)

I agree. The only way I've managed to avoid feeding the cycle is by continually thinking about the torture that I would be condoning if I bought one of PetSmart's bettas. Not good for my sanity, but I think it's necessary.

Oh, Natalie you bought him!! I saw that you wanted him and was hoping you would go for it. We need some new babies around and it is spring and new babies go with the springtime. He is absolutely stunning!!

Congratulations to you both. He found a loving, caring and most able mommy and you found yourself a beautiful boy.

Thanks guys. I'm excited. Believe it or not I told Mike last night that I planned on buying him and he wasn't even angry with me for buying another one. I was quite surprised. He's grown to like RJ and Pebbles though. I told him about him during the weekend and how he'll probably go on his 3rd week come monday if nobody bought him during the weekend.

Come Monday(yesterday) sure he enough he was put back up for auction and I just couldn't believe it. Three weeks that I know of he was put up and he never once got 1 bid on him. I was so shocked cuz he is such a beautiful betta. Yesterday before I bought him I emailed him about shipping and how he planned on going about shipping him out to me since he's going from a freezing cold state to a warm state right now. I wanted to make sure he would do right by the betta and myself. After that bad experience with that woman and how she didn't believe me about how warm it was here last yr this time of yr and the betta showed up DOA almost 7 days later, I was a leary about buying another one off aquabid. He emailed me back and I can tell you that I do trust this guy. He seems to care about his fish and won't even send him out if the weather conditions don't call for it. I asked him to send him out on a Friday since I'll be home all day Saturday to receive him and he said he doesn't usually like to do that in the winter mo. only because of the unpredictability of weather in the east coast, but he said he will and he will just be very careful about watching the weather conditions before he sends him out.

I told Mike I wasn't sure what to name him and he said " How about Sonny?" I said " why sonny?" He said , " well he's yellow isn't he?" I said, " no, honey, he's red" He said," oh, I thought he was yellow cuz you said you wanted to get a yellow one." I said " well I said I wanted to get either a yellow, red, or white one" He said ," oh" I do kind of like the name Sonny though. We'll see. I have to see him in person and see how is personality is before I decide on any names. I usually have names picked out before I bring them home, but that's not in this case. I can't wait to get him. Hey Nat..........he is one gorgeous boy! The seller sounds pretty ethical, so I am sure things will go well, and you will soon have him home with you to love and spoil!

LOL, your husband listens like mine. How come when you say something you hope they won`t hear, they always do..ha ha. Maybe you need to get a yellow one too, and you can say `Ìsn`t that what you told me to do``

Hope you pôst pics soon as you get him.

Seriously, I am so happy for you and I second the notion for pictures. Also of RJ and Pebbles since we haven't seen them for a long time, have we??

I need to do it too, I know...

Congrats Natalie! He is such a beautiful ruby red color. The white on the fins makes him look so delicate! I hope that he arrives safely. I ordered bettas from Thailand off of aquabid and they arrived in great condition. I am sure yours will too. Let us know what his personality is like when he comes.

Yeah I just hope the weather holds out in NY for Friday, so he can send him out. I know I still need to post pics of RJ and Pebbles. I've never posted any pics of them yet, because Mike took his computers down to get ready for the sale of our condo. He still has to pick them up from his parents house and hook the network back up. So, once he does I will posy them. I do have some of them on my camera.

I know go figure. It happens to me all the time. Especially if we argue, I may say something under my breath and somehow he hears me say it and he'll respond back to me and I'll be like "you weren't supposed to be listening when I said that." When I need him to listen he doesn't and when I don't need him to listen he puts his super power hearing on.

My b-day is coming up in a couple weeks maybe I can hint onto him that I still want that yellow one.

So, I received an email from Marc( the guy I bought my betta from) and he said he will send him out Friday and that I should have him sometime Saturday. I checked the weather for NY city yesterday and this morning. It went from 60% chance of pm showers yesterday to 40% chance of pm showers this morning for fridays forecast, so hopefully maybe by tomorrow there will be no chance and he will have a nice travel day. Marc said he will send me a confirmation email to let me know when he sent him out. I am very nervous. This guy has a lot of experience doing this, but this is only my second time buying a betta online. Well technically my 3rd if you want to count that horrid experience I had. I've only had 1 successfull delivery so far. So I really hope that this too will be a successful one. Natalie
