How do you entertain/play with a betta?

I don't know how to tell if she's happy or bored or what...I mean, I can see her periodically surfing the current at the top of the water, but I don't know if she's swimming laps because she's happy she has the room to swim, or if she's just pacing because she's bored.

Is there any particular kind of decor or activity you all use to entertain your bettas? I know how to play with cats and dogs, but not fish.

Some nice soft safe plants to rest/hide in
i have neon caves in mine from walmart in the fish stuff section
ive seen some people use hamster tubing and make lil obstacle courses up for their bettas

just make sure everything you put in is smooth and no small holes for betta to get stuck in

I use my fingers inside and outside the tank. The follow them and respond everytime. I play chase with my female, she lets me cup her in my hand sometimes. Just be sure you wash your hands everytime. We have this spray which is used for handling fish and tank stuff.

Well, hiding places she's got...I don't like that she can hide from me, but I'm sure she does! She's got 5 fake plants that she swims around and she likes swimming around and hiding behind her "cave" (a mug with a powder blue exterior and black interior and lip). Mostly, though, she watches the flow of the filter to see if any food is going to flow at her (little betta piggie that she is!), and surfs her little current.

We like to put things in the tank for them to play with and they absolutely eat up being talked to.The girls like little bubble walls, caves and plants but each has their own preferences so you'll find what your girl likes and doesn't like.

They LOVE to swim laps, she's definitely happy.

Yes from her videos I do believe you have a very healthy and happy little girl who simply is enjoying life to the fullest.

I have a cat that "plays with" Sun Ce periodically. She paws at the tank, and Sun Ce will swim back and forth in front of her paws. Of course, Ciani (the cat) is trying to get at the tasty morsel, but Sun Ce doesn't know that.

Other than that, Sun Ce's interaction usually comes from water changes, feeding, and random tank maintenance. He's also got a ton of vegetation in the tank, so he's got lots of stuff he can explore. The water wysteria grows really quickly, so the tank layout is always changing.

Oh, Sylvester's waved to his new little sister a couple of times...but mostly he just watches his KittyTV because he knows I'm paying attention to that thing moving in the water and not HIM.

I see you've been upgraded to mod. Good job.
