Introducing Brain

This is my new boy Brain. I know he is very young. How young I'm not sure. He wasn't so cooperative with mommy getting his picture taken as his mommy. What kind of betta is he? How old do you think he is?

I believe so....they are white-ish, correct? My girl Spazz is a cambodian (or so the experts here have told me ). She is white and translucent, I can see her innards somewhat.

Hi!

I saw one of those down at the LFS the other day BTW... Well I'm not sure about his breed, but I know he's not cambodian. Type in 'Cambodian Betta' to google images - you'll see what I mean.

Ok I think he is a pastel. And I think Pinky is as well. This is why "With pastels, the fins will not be see through like a cellophane, but they also won't be as "opaque" as an opaque fish. Pastels come in various shades, and have irridescence. Somewhat like a cambodian, the fish will have the pale body, while the fins carry the color. Blue, green, etc" I pulled this quote from http://bettas.fishjunkies.com/colors.php I think thats what i got. Two pastels.

Well, you're the one with the best view of your fish to compare to those pictures...based on the descriptions of your fish and their colors, though, I guesss that would be the best guess any of us could make.

Sorry but opaques are white fish with white fins. Cambodians are white fish with colored fins. She is right they could well be Cambodians of the color variety that is classed as Cambodian. There is also a Cambodian body type and class but that is a different matter entirely.

Most of the Cambodian colored fish I have seen have had dark red fins with their white bodies but this is not the only combo possible.

I also had a Cambodian male who was white body with powder blue fins.

I think finnage wise he is a Veiltail from what I can see so far but I could be wrong as it is hard to see the fins. You are right he is definitely a very young betta. I would say no more than 3 mos old.

thanks rose. He has pale green fins. I thought he was either a veil tail or a double tail.

Doubletail is just a description of the fin but type would be Veiltail, Crowntail, Halfmoon or Delta or SuperDelta or Feathered now. You can have a Doubletail Veiltail, Doubletail Crowntail, or any other type. The Doubletail only means that there is a natural split in the fin and not a result of fin damage. If he has a Veiltail that has a fork in it and even if it is not a complete fork then he is a Doubletail Veiltail. If his fin is intact then he is probably a straight Veiltail. I have only seen a couple of Doubletails of the Veiltail variety and they are absolutely lovely when their finnage reaches full growth. They are before that too but you know what I mean. Brain is such a cutie!!

Welcome to you, Brain.
