Too Much Loss

On Feb 8th my father passed away. It was a very difficult journey.

A few days later, my special betta, Neptune went into his cave and wouldn't come out, and he passed a day later. He had suffered from a tumour of some sort, that was not responsive to medication.

My husband and I were away this weekend, and when we got home I found my sweet little rescued betta Poppet - the one left over in Walmart from Christmas -had also passed away. Obviously the fish loss is nothing relative to losing my father, but my heart is re-broken into pieces when I think of it all!

A couple of weeks ago, I did find another sweet, healthy but tiny little red and white betta, with small fins that were folded because they couldn't stretch out fully in the cup. I brought him home, his name is Casey, and he is social and sweet and a really active little charmer! He is growing his fins, and trying hard to help my heart mend.

I know that Poppet, who had appeared to be healthy until Friday would not have had any life at all if I hadn't brought him home, and he delighted us every day. We will miss him.

I hope you will all welcome little Casey as you did Poppet. I will post a pic soon.

Val

Losing your beloved Bettas right after losing your father is pretty rough. Like getting kicked while you were down.
I am so sorry.
I looked forward to every update on Poppit. His last few months were filled with your tender loving care. Take pride in that.

Congrats on finding Casey. Looking forward to pictures!

I am so sorry to hear about this difficult time you are going through. It is terrible to lose a parent, and though losing fish is not nearly as painful, it certainly adds a considerable amount of weight to the situation. My heart goes out to you. Try to remember the good times that you had with your father, Poppet, and Neptune. That is the way they would want you to remember them. Congratulations on Casey. Sometimes even the tiniest little fishie can be the one thing to brighten your day and win your heart. Good luck with everything. I can't wait to see pictures of your new baby boy!

Aw, we're so sorry that you lost Poppet too. You really did give Poppet a good home and gave him a loving home when he would have died in that cup if you hadn't. It's been a really rough month there for you, but I hope that little Casey will bring smiles to you.

Val, I am so dreadfully sorry to hear of this loss. I am sure that Poppet had the finest you had to give him and was so grateful. You commented to me that he had finally come out of the darkness for you and that shows how much he truly loved you and wanted to be with you. You gave him a life that was so full of comfort and love that now when he is with the others and playing and telling them all about the things that have happened since they have gone on, I am sure they say that they are not astonished at all. After all they received the same from you and loved you as well.

Do take care and remember that we do care about you and want to be here for you.

Bless you and Casey. The new ones do not take the places of the ones who have gone on but they do help to heal the hurt some. His little gestures and actions will have you smiling in spite of everything and I bless him for it. We want to welcome him and say congratulations to you both for finding each other.

I shall keep you both in my prayers and thoughts.

Val,

You're coping wonderfully considering the amount of hardship and stress presented to you. You're a strong woman and will be a shining example to others on how to deal with loss. Hope Casey turns out to be that reason to keep shining.

I've had and lost many pets over the years, some to old age, some to my own ignorance, some to incurable illnesses. I like to think they're waiting for me somewhere, talking together! And maybe even telling the ones that will be my NEXT pets what they need to teach me! I've never stopped remembering and loving the lost ones, but I always rejoice in the new ones and would never trade in the joy they give me in order to avoid the pain of loss..

I'm sorry for your losses, Val, it's ALWAYS too soon to lose a parent, and especially hard without the comfort of your littlest friends. I hope the joy of your ones to come will help you get a good start the next phase of your life.

Hi!

Sorry about your Bettas, and dad. Casey looks lovely though! When one of my fish dies, I think positive - I'll be get an excuse to go to the LFS and have the joy of deciding who to take in next! Go down to your LFS today/tommorow, and find the Betta that gives you 'the look'!
