This looks inhumnane.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...5&pcatid=15445

What do you all think? It's a 1/4 gallon.

That is totally inhumane. Besides such cramped quarters that a fish's muscles would atrophy from inactivity, how can it be heated?

I think that lamp would make a lovely decoration with some pretty stones and a plant only.

It looks way small! No filter system... yep I agree!

Bettas are tropical fish and need heaters and filters in their tanks and like to swim about and love room. So yes, it is tremendously inhumane and cruel and horrendous and all the other adjectives I am trying to be too nice to use here. No one in their right mind would try to seriously buy such a thing and expect a fish to live for long in them. But people will buy them because they have been assured that the bettas do not need more. It is so cruel what people do to them. And they are so beautiful.

I think the people who do this to them ought to have to live in a bathroom for a year.

It is sick, we just have to hope that karma exists and that the creator, sellers and anyone that buys them gets their just deserves later in life!!!

You would need to have water changes at least hourly to keep that water clean! But it is still better then the Iponds. Those are sickening along with this.

My sister has that same tank with a betta and I give her grief everytime I see her. Unfortunately, she is one of those people who just shouldn't keep fish because she is lazy about water changes and keeps schooling fish in a community tank with only one fish of each species I have actually seen a tank worse than this though.......It was a plastic tank shaped like a doughnut standing up. All the betta had room to do is swim around in a circle. That was one of the worst things I have ever seen. It makes me so mad!

Well I don't know if they will post my review, but I entered it on the site. It was polite and informational. Perhaps they won't post it because I said I'd never buy such a product. WHatever, I felt better just setting it straight, maybe one person who reads it to delete, will think twice about the "mini hex"

I am just surprised, and disappointed, to see something like this on the Drsfostersmith website. I have always considered their site reputable and a lot of us patronize them for our supplies and/or equipment.

Ugh.
The worst thing is, I've seen smaller.
Worse than that, the smaller one was meant to be divided so you could keep two bettas.

I, too, am disappointed with Drs Foster and Smith. Most of their stuff seems so good. In fact, their liveaquaria site flat-out tells you that those types of "tanks" aren't big enough or warm enough for bettas.

The funny thing is, I just saw one at my petco and it costs $60!!!!!!!! That is the same as a 10 gallon kit complete with a heater and filter. Why would anyone buy such a thing?

I'm not sure if it is the same or not. I know that people use to put bettaas in glass vases with a plant. Is that pretty well the same thing.

The one that I saw was the exact one in the picture. Bettas should not be in glass vases or fish bowls. They need heaters and filters!

I am a little surprised that drs Foster and Smith would sell this, but at the same time they do have to keep up with the rest of the petshops that sell these things. I do think that they care way more about these animals then other petstores do. After all Dr Foster and Dr. Smith are vets., so they do care. I don't think that they would be in this business as long as they have been if they didn't care about the animals. Natalie

I think that it would be really neat if there was just a cool plant and maybe a ghost shrimp but squeezing a betta in there is horrid! if you go to "More information" it says to do a 100% water change weekly which is what it would need!

I confess

I confess to haveing W in a "betta hex" or something similar to it when I first bought him. I think I let him stay in there all of 4 days before I went out and bought him a much bigger home. And were talking bigger. Now he only goes in there if he's in my way when i'm cleaning his tank. I will put some of his tank water in there and let him hang out and watch me clean his tank at a distance. (sometimes W is much easier to get along with at a distance!) Anywho. Thats my confession. It was a terrible set up. My Betta's just keep moving on up in the world. Still no heaters, but were getting there!

Hi!

If they made this a lot bigger (2.5-5Gal) and with a heater and filter, it would be great. Otherwise - a big no-no. Mind you - what on earth is LiveAquaria selling these for?

Very disappointing. I guess when it comes to grubbing for a quick buck, ethical considerations are a non-issue.
