I got a crowntail betta about a week ago and I adore him. I have him in a 3 gallon aquarium with a heater and a couple plants, and today I did a 50% water change. He is buiding a huge bubble nest on top of the water. I happen to have a female betta in one of my community tanks. Should I try to breed them? If so, how do I go about it?

umm if i were you i'd do A LOT of research!! it takes a lot of time, understanding, money.. etc... when he blows a nest it means he's happy... my boys do it everytime i do a water change. they love fresh clean water! sometimes its best not to try to breed every fish you have. easier to start with livebearers..

but if youre willing to buy all the extra equipment and grow ur own fry food.. then best to ya but bettas dont have to breed.. their content not doing so

mine dont breed.. i just enjoy having both sexes anyway

I'm having seccond thoughts about breeding him. It is a lot of extra work and right now I work 7 days a week. I'll give it more thought. I am glad to know that it means that he is happy though. He's my first betta and I don't have much experience with them

do u feed him live blackworms cuz he'd REALLY love you if u did... fishies like to wrestle with em... i feed mine a combo of pellet, flake, live blackworm, frozen bloodworm, and freezedried bloodworm (not so much on this one tho.. the little things stick to my fingers).. my bettas have never been picky

No, but I will go out and get some. So far I have just been feeding him the little betta pellets. Thanks for the advice

He is a blue and red crowntail. Very big healthy and pretty. Any ideas for names? I thought of Bubbles. What do you think??

Thanks. I think I have decided on that name. It fits him.

Yea, taking care of all those Bettas is a full-time job that needs a good size room and at least $1000-2000 in supplies, etc.
