Got a new Betta

Went to Wal-Mart and got a betta, hes blue, has a black head, and aqua blue fins. I think I'm going to name him Charlie, but I have a problem, he can see his reflection, he just stared it. He seems to be content at the moment, any suggestions for later on? Thanks!

Hi!

He'll get used to his reflection. It takes them a while to learn it's not acctualy a fish back there! I was looking at a Betta who maatched his description just yesterday. Nice little guy.

Some bettas go nuts when they see their reflections, some dont' care. I have one of each.

The only suggestions I have is to keep his water very clean, as he was no doubt exposed to high amounts of ammonia at the store, and to get him at least a 5 gal tank.

Congrats!

Ok thanks! I think he is calming down now. The thing that I have him in now is my little cousins old betta set. It might be 1,3, or 5 gallons. I don't know which but Charlie's getting used to it now. Soon I will be getting him a new tank. 10 I think. But thanks and hopefully he won't attack his reflection like some bettas do. Mostly red I've heard.

I rearraged all the betta's at walmart yesterday so they couldn't see each other. Some sales associate there was probally going to be pretty angry. All I could think was OMG thier water is so dirty that if they blow a fin with all this flaring going on, some fish is gonna get real sick. Its like breathing , I just can't help myself.

Yup! I saw some that were like rotting, seriously. I felt so bad, they were like all scratched up, some of the other bettas, but I felt that the blue one that didn't have scratches would be the healthiest!Thats how I got Charlie!

Yea, they make you almost hate to go look at the Bettas there. Congrats on rescuing Charlie!

Yes, but one other thing that makes mem mad is that these two people got a heated bowl type thing with no filter, and bought a betta the same day, and for the heater it was only a lamp! I wanted to say something but I didn't. Also there was an employee(cant spell)right there and he didn't recomend to atleast treat the water first!

Bettas are an example of how life has become cheap and disposable in our culture. If only everyone had a respect for all life, I know our world would be a better place. Just because fish can't make noise, doesn't mean they should be treated as disposable decoration.

Hi!

Dave - you are totally right. Lol - if all fish clicked like Platydoras costatus
when stressed then the world of fish would be much better!
